@ronnz98 made the build for the Pixel 8a, and their install advice is to follow the installation method for LineageOS, but when using adb sideload to of course flash the iodé .zip. So in short, I think the boot.img you are looking for can be downloaded from lineage. So use the link to Lineage from column 1 in the table at the top for the instructions and links to most things, then use the link to the 6.2 build for the actual build image.
In the future I am going to take on builds for the Pixel 8a (and 9 series, and older 2 series, etc). I create the relevant boot, img, etc.
I’m still using the Pixel 3XL as my main phone. The phone and the system are quite OK, however I think I’m on 2G for calls (there’s a G displayed). I was not able to run any tests with network-test apps.
Rik do you know when the next build wil be “built” ? I want to try the Local updates feature.
I’m pretty sure Rik is on holiday and away from his computers this week. 6.3 sources are now available s I would guess the Pixel builds will start when he gets back
I have uploaded iodéOS 6.3 builds for the Pixel 3 - 9 series and updated the chart with them. I had a few glitches getting the 1 - 2 series built correctly due to some partition size issues, I’ll try to get those sorted and uploaded in the next day or two.
By the way, we are keeping the last version of the previous major series, (so the last 5.x builds) and the most current 2 builds from the current series (so at this time it is 6.3 and 6.2) available, but remove other versions (so 6.1 and 6.0 have been removed, as are all but the last version of the 5.x builds). If for some strange reason you may want one of those older builds I can re-create it if necessary.
Hi.
I’ve downloaded the 6.3 for Pixel 3XL and successfully updated to it using Local update. Although no option to update to latest recovery it did install the 6.3 recovery (just checked).
On first use I see no issues… will come back later if I find.
Thank you for building these ROMs rik!
Sorry, I would like to test Iode Os 6.3 on Pixel 9 Pro, is it enough to flash iode-6.2-20250420-UNOFFICIAL-caiman-boot.img and then sideload iode-6.2-20250420-caiman.zip or do I have to use other files as well?
I replied via DM to @Barb0ne clarifying that those are the 2 files they need, but they should select the 6.3 versions. We keep the most recent 2 builds available in case the newest uploads have an unexpected issue.
They also questioned if it would work with Android 16 Beta currently on their phone. With concerns on if the May 2025 security update would work or not (likely not) with the iodé 6.3 builds, it seemed safest to recommend to them they try to install an Android 15 version from before May 2025, then after that attempt to upgrade to iodé. I would guess (??) the flash.android.com site would ensure you don’t brick your phone when attempting to put on an older build, so it seems the best way to go until updated iodé builds have the needed patches in them (I think the upcoming 6.4 builds will be good in this regard).
I managed to install Iode on a Pixel 2 XL. So far everything went smoothly. I had to boot into TWRP Recovery to install. Lineage OS Recovery threw me some Errors while installing. Something about SPL not matching.
Thank you devs for providing the ROM for this old but still useful device. Highly appreciated! Btw, any chance for the 6.3 update to come for the Pixel 2 XL? That would truly put a big smile on my face
@Sunshine sadly my v6.4 builds are still failing for taimen and walleye (the Pixel 2 series devices). All others are working, even the original Pixel (1) series devices. I’ll need to look a bit more into this.
I have uploaded iodéOS v6.4 builds. As with prior builds, I have only confirmed that the Pixel 3a XL bonito build installs correctly (using “Local Update” from the “Updater” app).
As noted above, the Pixel 2 series builds have not succeeded, so you will need to stay with @ronnz98 's v6.2 builds for now for those devices.
update: no issues, havent had random reboots happen for seemingly no reason (seems linked to default kernel of the Pixel 9). boot is crazy fast (10 seconds) everything runs very smooth and fluid. my root also hasnt been causing random crashes either which is nice (APatch). everything works as expected
@rik
I’d like to install your unofficial iodéOS on my Google Pixel 9 Pro (caiman). But before I’ll do this I’ve to questions:
Will the original camera app run on your port? The one which is delivered with the original Google Android OS on the Google Pixel 9 Pro?
When the “official” iodéOS is released, will I be able to install it as update/upgrade or will I have to install it completely new and from scratch?
Regards
“Klaus”
No, as I understand it is not available publicly, it is “baked in” to Google’s builds. BUT, you can obtain .apks from GCam Hub, which I don’t fully understand but am testing with myself. It is some sort of mashup of the proprietary Google apks with mods to make it work for non-Pixel devices and / or devices without Google Play Services (like iodé or other microG builds). There is more discussion in this topic.
Since the “build keys” will be different, you won’t be able to update using the “Updater” app. But I would assume a “dirty flash” will work from recovery, meaning you should not need to wipe the device. So all your user data should be fine, installed apps still installed, etc.
Note that after installing the iodé version (when it becomes available), if you would choose to then re-lock your device it would then wipe your userdata (pretty sure about that).
I have recently installed iodeOS on a Pixel 4a. In the table it says tested: ‘no’. Is there something which needs to be tested which changes it to ‘yes’? Will that eventually make it switch to supported?
No. It is marked as not tested because the team who make these unofficial builds (for Pixel and Sony devices) do not have
access to actual devices for testing
time (or motivation) to spend on testing. We do this stuff in our spare time.
The good news is that the code in these builds has been tested
by the LineageOS maintainers of the device-specific code
by the Iodé developers of the IodéOS code.
So you are unlikely to see any problems which do not occur (and which will nt be fixed eventually) in either the LineageOS, LineageOS for microG, or IodéOS ROMs for these devices.
Unlikely. As far as I know, the Iodé team are not looking to add devices to their list of supported devices. And if they did, they would probably focus in more recent devices rather than the five year old 4a.
