Fairphone users: Hands off updating to IodéOS 7.5!

Updater delivered an update to 7.5 lately. After the update, my Fairphone 4 didin’t start up anymore. After several retries (approx. 5 times) it finally started 7.4 again, see

Other users had the same issue with FP6 and stock android. Hence it may be an FP issue. For the moment it’s not recommended to update a FP.

On the other hand: Did anyone successfully update a FP to 7.5?

Hi @andi, I had no issues with the update from iodé 7.4 to iodé 7.5 on my Fairphone 4.

Fairphone 5, No extrem problems. The same like every Update with the deinstalated preinstalled apps. Have to install them again snd then deinstall.

I’ve also upgraded from 7.4 to 7.5 on FP4 and it worked as expected. No issues

Weird. Preinstalled apps remain installed for me.

No issue after upgrading my FP6 to iode 7.5 on 2 phones.

Ok, thank you all. It seems to be a specific issue then.
Nevertheless it’s recommended to backup the phone before an update.

It is specifique, but not unique. I just had the same issue with FP4 and updating to 7.5.

For me it is a pretty serious issue if a regular update means the threat of complete loss of functionality of my phone. Because then I will only update, when I am sure I have enough time for a complete new setup in case anything goes wrong. Which means, I will wait even longer to update my phone. Which again, is a security problem.

Just for others that are still stuck I am linking to a new thread to consolidate the current status and issues:

Thanks for the report! So it is @wrongly-poet-cling and @andi that had issues. @wrongly-poet-cling did you get this similar message about init_user0_failed in recovery like andi?

@rik
I have a question to the following article:

Upgrade from 6.x to 7.x with a locked boot loader fails. That’s clearly stated in the article.
Update from 7.x to 7.y (e.g. 7.4 to 7.5) with a locked boot loader should work. Correct?

I didn’t ask in the article above for keeping it clean. But I would appreciate a clarification of my question there.

I have a locked bootloader on my FP5 and have had no issue to update within the 7.x series.

Yes, I had exactly the same message.
And the bootloader was unlocked.

Clarification: upgrade from 6.x to 7.x fails if you don’t reset userdata. So it “succeeds” but with a data reset.
