Upgrade to Iode 6 / Android 15

Hey there,

when is version 6 / Android 15 planned to be released for Samsung Galaxy S10 Series? A stable LOS+mG build is already available. I’m still on Iode 4.21 and want to know when to upgrade.

Regards

Hey Luzi,

You can already upgrade your S10 manually to version 5

Be aware that a factory reset is needed and you will lose all your data.
So an update from version 4 to any later version requires this factory reset.

The version 5 recieves also updates (version 5.11 on my S10+ at the moment of writing).

Thanks Nomad, but I want to avoid factory resetting my device again after an update from 5 to 6 is available. I’d rather wait and just want to know when the release is planned. But the devs seem to be not around in this forum I guess…

I was thinking about buying the family lifetime plan for 250 € but everythings just too slow and lags behind. Be it Iode still on LOS 21 for S10 Series while 22.2 is already out or the app updates of f-droid, etc.

I might move to LOS-microG. Are there apps and things that don’t work under LOS compared to Iode?

Most apps that work on IodéOS will also work fine on LOS4microG.
A couple of exceptions I know of:

  1. IodéOS generally passes SafetyNet ‘out of the box’ whereas LOS4microG does not, meaning a few apps which run on IodéOS may not run on LOS4microG - examples are UK banking apps Smile and Nationwide.
  2. The Iodé blocker app (which selectively blocks apps from transmitting data to dubious internet sites) is not available

If there is a particular app you need to run, you can

Thanks for the reply petefoth,

Why is it so, that iode passes the SafetyNet and LOS not?
The blocker is easy replaceable with some other dns-blocker, maybe without the polished UI.

I’m really tired of iode right now. I pay monthly 7 € for a product thats not really reliable and with small downsides is available for free (or donation).

If I knew the answer to that, I would make a build of LineageOS for microG that does pass SafetyNet

:england: I also look after a few S10(e) smartphones. All with IodeOS 4 (via TWRP). I would also like to know if or when the updates will continue a higher Android version.
Is there perhaps a timetable or info about it…?

Maybe Vince and the rest of Iode team will tell you? They’re loosing customers anyway due to their bad upgrade policy and communication

Would love to have at least a nod in a direction! Maybe it’s already built and only needs to be published? Or is it never gonna happen because it’s too old whatever?

There is a version of 5.12, but that only works with a new setup, since the partition structure has changed in LOS 22 (and iode is based on LOS). That was discussed several times here

I haven’t asked them because I know they are too busy and have more important issues to deal with.

Really? Where did you find details of how many ‘customers’ they have? I don’t recall seeing these numbers publicised.

:england: Thanks for the info. However, with several S10(s) I would like to avoid a new installation because of the time spent. I had always used TWRP with Odin and besides, the instructions of Lineage is really not user-friendly…especially if you can’t think you can’t think of English.:sob:
I think I read at the upcoming Iode 6 would be an update directly possible…I hope not be mistaken and it was just a wish, since I can’t find the post anymore…

LOS 20 to 21 or 22 needs new setup (different partition scheme), LOS 21 to 22 works without new installation

Even if it won’t change much I wanted to note I am in exactly the same boat here. Still on iode 4.x, noticed LOS with microG already published a release for S10 with Android 15 and wondered if I should make the change or wait…

What are the big advantages to update the S10 from 4.x to 5.x?
trying to judge if a clean install is worth the hassle

thanks

Is that so? I take that for granted and will update asap. Thanks a lot, that solves the hassle of upgrading again through adb after Iode6 is out.

As @laneb mentioned, it’s possible to upgrade from Iodé 5 to 6 OTA, so upgrading now to Iodé 5 is already making sense.

Let’s see if an Update to A16 and LOS 23 will be available for S10 Series and if a fresh install will then be necessary too
