Upgrade guide iodeos 6.9 -> 7.1?

Hello,

it is a while that update, or should I better use the term upgrade IodeOS from 6.9 to 7.1 is available.

The link on the update app leads to a LineageOS page - I know that IodeOS is LineageOS based.

But I am not sure what to do with the information. Is there a upgrade guide for IodeOS release upgrades?

A) do I apply the LineageOS upgrade guide with adb sideload of the 7.1 IodeOS image and preserve data

or

B) should I use the official IodeOS installer and does this imply to be a fresh (=data wipe) install?

Thank you for your patience

I haven’t tried, but all you probably need is to install a special updater: beta/UpdaterBetaIode7V1.apk · master · ota / ota · GitLab

After upgrade via this updater you uninstall it, if you want to be in the official update channel.

Hello Nollie

Is this documented somewhere? Is this official software?

Thanks

Yup

Are you writing about the iodé news app? Use that one. It has a message from Dec 7th. Title “iodéOS version 7 upgrade: important information”

There, they put a link (“available here”) for the updater-update that is necessary (Nollie gave an updater for beta, I would rather use the link in the news app).

They even describe about “open links in an external browser” and every necessary step to upgrade. Don’t forget to uninstall (step 3) the update of the updater app afterwards. After you took the little extra way for the update to 7.0, the next version 7.1 will work by simply downloading and installing through the updater.

I found the description very helpful. Please let us know if it worked and don’t forget to backup your data before any system update - just in case.

EDIT: you did not specify your phone, I wrote this assuming that your phone can indeed update to version 7.0. Please check this list if it is possible for your device.

Hi Miss Piggy,

thank you very much for the detailed answer and guideline.

No, I saw that in the updater app, I will check for the entry in the news app. And of course, after making a backup.

My phone is Motorola G52 running IodeOS 6.9 now.

Thanks, will do the jump in the next days and report back.

Only for support level :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Don’t know too much about all the wizardy stuff you are doing with smartphones and builds and so on. You have been missed and I hope it was for holiday reasons and not for health reasons. Good to have you back!

Hey, folks, I really appreciate this OS and I’ve been telling people about it on our Anti-Censorship Technical Committee website and other places. Degoogling the Pixel 8: Installing IodeOS -- It's really this easy! - ACTC - Unstoppable Liberty

That said, I’m trying to run the updater found on my Pixel 7 Pro, and I’m getting an error saying “There was a problem parsing the package.” Has anybody else run into this?

I was a bit behind on my updates, so my phone is currently running 6.6. Perhaps I need to take care of a couple incremental backups first. Just thinking out loud.

I hope I don’t have to install from scratch to make this work. Thanks!

Well, since you are commenting on this (already solved) thread, you surely did the (temporary) update of the updater app, right?

@MissPiggy If you’d prefer, I can open a new thread, BUT now I see that there are two files being discussed here. Following your link shows the correct one: https://gitlab.iode.tech/ota/ota/-/raw/master/fixes/Updater-v6-to-v7.apk
Thanks!

Hi Mark,

just use the link specified in your iodé news app, this will give you the correct file.

So you had not done the update yet? Is your problem solved now?

The link in the news app wasn’t working for me, but your link solved it immediately (even if those should go to the same place). Thanks!

That is weird … Where did it send you instead?

I did not provide one.

Whatever let your updater update, glad that it worked.

I meant the link in the announcement link that is identified as the answer. I should have gone there, first.

At this point, the link in the News app takes me to a blank page that just has a back-arrow and says External Link. No opportunity there to do anything but go back to the news announcements.

Have you activated the option

“Open links in external browser”?

Ha! Yes, I see it there, now…turned it on. Thanks!

To all future readers of this thread, here is a screenshot of the news. Step one is important (as are 2 and 3  ).
