Uninstalled "Preinstalled Apps" will be automaticly installed after some time

Since my Shiftphone 8.1 have received the update to v7.2, after some days, all uninstalled apps will be installed automatically (inclusive required reboot).

Observation: Updater always show (free translated from German) “Search about updates fails, please verify your internet connection or do it later again”.

@ubIx welcome! Regarding preinstalled apps returning, there is this thread that would be a good one to follow up with. This is marked as solved, but it didn’t have a satisfactory solution. But there are other posts about apps removed via “Preinstalled Apps” not able to be restored correctly. So check those out too, a search on "Preinstalled’ sorted by date would be a good start.

Then let’s see where things are at (after maybe adding / rebooting / removing rebooting).

Regarding the Updater giving an error, this may have been as the server was being updated, but let’s make a separate thread for that if that problem persists.

Thanks, at my side it is slightly different.

During installation, I disabled especially the microG Services and Aurora Store. Since one month it was still unchanged. After update to 7.2 both was installed again. OK, this I was expecting (anyhow it shouldn’t be the case). So I deinstalled it and reboot my Shift.

After about 1 week, the Shift rebooted (this was with the initial 6.4? - I don’t exactly remind the SW version). After a while I observed, that there was the Aurora store listed in the overview. So I checked in the settings if the preinstalled apps page. So I observed that beside Android Auto any other app was installed again. I disabled my selection as well and do the required reboot.

OK. Not nice but can happen. After about 1 week, same issue. Reboot of the Shift without any reason. Now I checked the preinstalled apps again in the System settings. And like expected, again all the before deinstalled apps was installed, OK, deinstalled my selection and rebboot fix it.

But due to this fact, I decided to report this bug. Now I monitor, if my selection stays, daily. I will report it if it happens again.

I don’t know, how to report this bug.

So is it having some sort of crash? As “Preinstalled Apps” effectively handles app adjustments on the read-only system partition, it may be that some sort of crash has messed with the separate shim type file that directs system to remove the actual apps and replace them with empty stubs.

This is a piece I haven’t taken time to fully dig through to understand better, so the prior sentence may be awash with misunderstanding  The lead developer is away this week, I will try to get a better understanding upon his return.

Maybe, I had 2 crashes in the last 4 days. But only after the crash today, all apps was installed again. Seams to be not at any crash.

Is there any common pattern behind these crashes or maybe a clue as to what is causing them?

Today I had again a crash (w/o installation).
No glue what is the reason. Is there a log, where I can see the reason for the reboot?

Tody I did the update to 7.3 (only possible with beta updater).
