Any opinions which of the newer Sony devices offers the best camera quality with Iode OS?
Still not an issue for me, but my family is complaining and I’d love to keep them happy with de-googled devices…

I have a Xperia 5 IV, pdx224 with unofficial iode 7.5 and I use the Sony app Photography Pro Version 1.7.2.A.0.9 from Aurora store, works fine, all camera lenses are supported

Any ideas from which Xperia generation on that works?
Maybe an issue with your current device isn’t the camera as much as the image compression settings? Are you using Aperture or OpenCamer or other? With OpenCamera, for example, I find the default compression settings way too high meaning it has low resolution from that more than the hardware? (and is a reason I prefer the newer default of Aperture).
We mostly have the best results with Secure Camera from Graphene.
Otherwise we use Aperture, could be that Open Cam compression is one problem there.
I also thought there is quality loss because of some issues related to removing the stock OS and losing some “hardware/firmware keys” or something. I am really not an expert there.
But reading it might be possible to use the Sony Camera on some devices makes me VERY interested!
There are some discussions on using the stock Sony firmware, it is not really possible as I understand without rooting. @petefoth may chime in, he is the best resource on Sony devices (and is responsible for all the unofficial Sony builds as you may know).
Sorry, cameras are not my strong point. As I recall, it was possible to get the Sony Camera app for XZ1C running in custom ROMs up to android 17.1, and possibly 18.1 and 19.0 with some dirty hackery creative programming techniques.
I am aware of discussions about getting better camera functionality - based on Sony or Google Camera apps - working on Sony devices, but I don’t follow the discussions in any detail: Aperture - and previously Open Camera - is good enough for my camera needs / use.

No, no idea. At apkmirror are a lot of Sony apps, which are no more available at g-store

@petefoth do you have a spare Sony test device to check those out (even though not much interest to you)?
I tried both apps on my daily driver Xperia 10 v running los4microG 23.2. Both apps installed OK and ran through the process of granting permissions, and the video app ran through its brief introductory tour, but closed immediately afterwards. Tried clearing storage for both apps, but no joy: they go through the ‘permissions’ stuff again and then close. Trying to open them again gets the ‘App keeps closing’ dialog after a few tries.
I don’t have any devices currently running iodéOS, but there’s no reason to think that the apps would work any better than they do under los4microG: my builds at least are made using the same device-specific, kernel, and vendor code and binaries for both OSs.
I might be able to find some time to flash iodéOS on another device, and try there. But I wouldn’t expect the outcome to be any different. I suspect there’s a reason that Sony don’t make these apps available in the PlayStore (or anywhere else that I know of)

That app does not appear for me in Aurora Store, even if I spoof my device to a different SOny device in Aurora Store settings.
Both apps work fine on my Sony 5 IV pdx224, I got them from apkmirror, not Aurora

was a mistake, I fetched them from apkmirror
I tried to install the latest version from it from apkmirror on XZ2 akari and XZ2C and it failed because of “not being compatible with this device”…
I just tried installing ‘Open Camera’ complete with iode tweaks (F-Droid) on a 10iii (iode GSi installed). It seems to work ok but I’m only a point and shoot user but the the zoom works fine on both front and back camera’s and that is usually the weakest link from my experience. It is listed on F-droid as ‘complete with iode tweaks’ so as to distinguish it from the generic version of the same app’. You might need to scroll a little to find it.
I have Xperia 10 V pdx235 running los4microG 23.2. That app does not appear in Aurora Store. I tried spoofing to a different Sony device, and spoofing location / language to German: still no joy. Strange!
