Hi all, I have been using the GSI 5.17 for a couple of weeks, everything works except for trying to call or message or use the mobile data.
It’s a sony Xperia 1 ii, the sim carrier allows only Volte 4g, when I put the sim on other devices everything works except for the xperia 1 ii with iode’ GSI.
I tried other sim carrierrs on the xperia still nothing and on other phones they work.
What is happening:
when I go to settings->network and internet->calls and sms: it says (TEMPORARILY UNAVAILABLE).
The sim is recognized as when I remove it it says NO SIM.
When I try to call any number it says turn off airplane mode to make call even though its turned off.
I already set up the APN, restarted the device and still unable to make calls.
Also I checked the #4636# to check the IMS status and it says:
IMS registration: Not registered.
Voice over LTE: Unavailable.
Voice over Wi-Fi: Unavailable.
Video calling: Unavailable.
UT interface: Unavailable.
What should be done to solve the calls issue?
If calls work then the messaging or 4g connection will be solved as everything will be setup properly.
This is your key issue. What carrier are you using (and what country)? If you are in the USA, for example, it is possible the device has not been “whitelisted” so is effectively blocked from registering (especially if on the Verizon or AT&T networks). T-Mobile is less restrictive this way.
You could reflash the phone back to stock and see if it would get registered on the network, then we go from there. Keep us updated!
My original comment was that going to stock Android (Sony) would help identify if your issue is the GSI build or instead the device itself not being allowed on your carrier.
BUT, I didn’t cross-check the Unofficial Builds For Sony Xperia Devices list first: with the Xperia 1 ii on that list, I suggest you flash that, it will give better hardware compatibility than the GSI image.
Also, the builder of those images, @petefoth, is in the UK as well so could confirm the usability on the 3 network.
I see yeah having the android sony version back would definitely tell, ok I will follow your advice and try the @petefoth method as it is definitely more hardware compatible, thanks again
Hi @petefoth thanks a lot for providing the community with these builds, my question is on the second step where we have to use the recovery image after completing the installation from the first step from lineageos guide, is the second step after the installation from the first step or part of it?
( For these devices
follow the LineageOS installation instructions {first step}
use the recovery image (and any other images required for installation) from the device-specific directory of the download server{second step?}
Hi @petefoth, I managed to install the build that you provided for us instead of the GSI, now the issue is still there however I have more details now:
in both these cases the airplane mode is off but it shwos network with an exclamation point at the top by battery icon:
1)when I make a call it says: turn off airplane mode to make call
2)when I send message it says: could not send message radio turned off
when I go to settings, about phone, device details-SIM status it says:
Network: unknown
Mobile network state: unknown
Service state: Radio off
Signal strength: 0
Mobile voice network tyoe: unknown
Mobile data network tyoe: unknown
Roaming: not roaming
when I type #4636# now the UT interface is working compared to before, but all others are still the same
IMS status
IMS registration: Not registered.
Voice over LTE: Unavailable.
Voice over Wi-Fi: Unavailable.
Video calling: Unavailable.
UT interface: Available.
I added the vbmeta and the dtbo on this step but not the others available from your server, could this be the issue? (for example the “super empty”, “boot” and “recovery”).
No. If they are not mentioned in the installation instructions, then they are not needed. They get made by the build tool for most devices, even though they are not needed for a lot of devices. Don’t know why - that’s just the way it works
It is possible that this is caused by a corrupted EFS partition: see this web article for more details. Ignore the fact that it talks about TWRP restore: it is possible that installing the GSI corrupted the EFS partition. So you could try the solution outlined in the article, which is to erase the modemst1 (and modemst2 partitions if it exists)). You can’t do that from LineageOS or IodéOS recovery, so just try the instructions in either the ‘How to Fix EFS over ADB’ section or the ‘How to Fix EFS from Bootloader Mode using Fastboot commands’ section.
