No ring tone in hearing aids

I have iode loaded on a Pixel 5 and it works great except for the phone ring tone when there is an incoming call. It vibrates but never sends the ring tone to the hearing aids. I have the bluetooth setting set to hearing aids. I have tried it as everything else including other but it will not ring in the hearing aids. I’ve tried it with vibration & haptics on and off. Even though the hearing aids are set as hearing aids in the bluetooth setting, under the accessibility settings there are no hearing aids listed. I am not sure what else to do and I am starting to believe this is a bug.

Did you enable in Bluetooth settings, where your hearing aid is listed and connected, after pressing the cog next to the name of your hearing device, the HD sound, Media sound etc? If yes, sorry for proposing such an easy fixture..

Yep, I tried that. I have Resound hearing aids with a bluetooth label device. I finally tried to link just the hearing aids up. Then I heard the ringtone but the mic didn’t work. I prefer not to go straight to the hearing aids because the cell phone becomes the mic and that is a pain in the keyster.

I just tried it again and now I can’t get the ringtone in the hearing aids. I truly think it’s an OS bug.

I downloaded a ringtone that was about 27 seconds long and used it. With the lapel device connected I never got a ringtone in the hearing aids or on the phone. With the hearing aids directly connected I got an intermittent tone in the hearing aids. Strange thing is I got two different intermittent tones in the hearing aids. One was the selected tone and the other was like an old phone tone. I’m sticking with the bug theory for now.

No ring tone in hearing aids .

Did you try in Accesability - Hearing Aids - hitting the PLUS button PAIR NEW DEVICE - Show another devices (if your HA is not supporting ASHA protocol)?

And did you try to pair normal BT Headphones and try if it plays Ring Tone?

Yes. What I did was have it forget the lapel device in Bluetooth. Then I turned it off and went to Accessibility and paired the Hearing Aids. They did pair. I called the phone and got a very short set of intermittent ring tones and a second tone was mixed in. Before the call timed out and went to voicemail, I heard two brief tones, like it was connecting and disconnecting. Media works just fine, either with the lapel device or the Hearing Aids connected directly. That’s the weird thing.

That sure is weird.

For sure. That’s why I think it’s a bug. It would be nice to hear from someone that has it working.

I have heard of some debugging some more advanced bluetooth devices with “Bluetooth Codec Changer” or others by forcing a codec change and observing if there is a difference. This app is not open source and only the basic features are free but you can at least switch a few things with it.

But yes, I think we need to find others with these same Hearing Aids and if they are working in a de-Googled ROM or not. Possibly looking on the /e/ forum could help.

I thought the problem might be Bluetooth connect time but I don’t have an issue with other apps like email. I here those notifications. I still don’t hear the phone ring which is keeping me from making this my primary phone. It seems to ring 4 times and then to voicemail but I never get a tone in the hearing aids.

Just to troubleshoot if the issue is isolated to your hearing aids only or instead related to bluetooth devices in general, do you happen to have any other bluetooth headset or earbuds that you can test? If so, pair them and see if you receive incoming phone call sounds.

I will this weekend when I’m back in town. Good idea. I’ve tried it straight to the hearing aids and also to the lapel device and both of those do not work I’ll give feedback after trying some of my earbuds.

I tried a set of ear buds and I get caller id in the ear buds. I tried turning off the voice caller id (Google Phone app, settings, Advanced - Caller ID announcement) but the setting doesn’t affect it. I haven’t discovered a setting that gets rid Of the caller id. In my hearing aids I hear a click but never hear any caller id so I was thinking that if I turned that feature off maybe I would hear the ringtone. Anyone have that particular issue?

In your earbuds do you mean when receiving a call a message “call from ” is announced? It does seem like that Google Dialer setting you reference. I haven’t used it but it may not work as expected. Maybe you just tried that app instead of the default to see if it would work with your hearing aids?

I used the google app because I had the same issue with the native app. Yes, I did hear the caller id in the ear buds. I’ll reload the original phone app and see if the same problem exists.

I reloaded the iode phone app. Same issue as with the Google Phone app.
