Hi. For many months I haven’t updated my Google Pixel 7 to the latest v6.6 update and have been very satisfied with my previous version of v6.3, wherein I still have Charging Control to limit my battery charging level to 80% max.
So, for my peace of mind, I just want to go back to iode v6.3, when this was not an issue before. But to my dismay, no downloads for v6.3 for the Pixel 7 exists anymore! (As of August 30, the oldest update availabe for download is v6.5.)
Thus, I’ve reached a dead end. I just want Charging Control back by downgrading to a previous update just from months ago (as much as possible, without the need to perform a factory reset). Is there a way for me to download v6.3 for the Pixel 7?
Charging control was removed from Lineage (upstream) for Pixel devices because it wasn’t working correctly, as I understand (so this change was just “inherited” by iodéOS). I too miss it, but it is out of our hands (as the prior post you linked notes). I didn’t dig up the Lineage issue report regarding why they removed it, but that is the place to dig around to understand why it was removed.
Regarding going back to 6.3, this isn’t (easily) possible. Android bases do not “downgrade” easily without a full wipe and re-install. Due to space limitations, and since the security patches are not up-to-date on old builds they aren’t retained.
If you want to charge to a maximum of 80%, you can use a Shelly Plus Plug together with the Tasker app on your phone to turn off the plug via Wifi once 80% is reached.
