Fairphone (Gen. 6)?

I know this might be a bit early to ask, but since I just ordered a FP6, I am interested to test iodéOS on it. Are there already plans to support the device?

Thanks a lot
Martin

At the earliest when there will be a LOS build.
The past models have shown that it takes around 1/2 year until a build can be expected…

Optimistically, I would say: “At the turn of the year or into spring”

Maybe it is possible earlier because Murena already offered it. Is a team member around to answer this question?

Late reply but the FP6 is listed for sale in the iodé shop. Shipping says “in 2025” so there are indeed plans for it, but builds aren’t available yet.

Wait until :fallen_leaf: or :snowflake:

I checked, there is no beta build available yet but it is being worked on.

Hi, I would be interested to know what the current status is. The shop says that the Fairphone 6 is available for pre-order.
I have three questions about this:

  1. When would the device be delivered? Before Christmas or after Christmas?
  2. Is the bootloader locked again on the Fairphone 6, as it was on the Fairphone 5?
  3. Is it possible to install a different OS later (I don’t plan to do so, but I want to be on the safe side in case something like what happened to DivestOS happens to iodeOS)?

I don’t believe the device build is ready yet so I can’t comment on the timing but did ask for a status update from the devs. I also can’t say for certain but am fairly sure the device will be re-locked (and unlockable / reflashable with any ROM of your choosing).

I would also like to know when official builds are ready. I found only the inofficial one here: [UNOFFICIAL BUILD] Fairphone 6 for iode 6.x

But it seems FP6 is also not included in last Beta versions: iodéOS 7 (beta) is here! - #20 by jedie

No more information, no timeline?

I found that the challenge in finalizing the FP6 build is that the test device used has a hardware problem, so another device is needed to confirm the build on before making it available publicly. I think this is being obtained so hopefully soon!

BTW before the test device had issues, I understood that everything was working well except relocking the bootloader which is of course a requirement. So that piece may need a bit more effort before the build would be made available.

Because iodos was not available, i install /e/ … relocking the bootloader works fine. (But /e/ is boring)

Yes, /e/ has it available. Still working on the FP6 on our side but getting the bootloader relocking working is still causing problems.

iodeOS is now available for the Fairphone 6, and from my own experience, I can say that it works well.

Correct. We have official builds now, they support bootloader relocking, and they will wipe out the FRP partition to prevent any accidental prevention of future re-flashing. So all should be good to go!

So, I have received my new Fairphone6 and it came with /e/os pre flashed. I have a few questions:

Do I need to flash the Fairphone OS back on the device before flashing iodeOS?

It seems the iodeOS v3.0 installer does not yet support FP6? So, manual installation is required, correct?

It seems there is no dedicated fastboot package on the got page for FP6 but for FP5. Do we use fastboot package for FP5 to flash iodeOS on FP6?

Are there some other manual flash instructions available for FP6 elsewhere by any chance?

What is the date of the SPL in Iodé 7.1 for FP6?

I am not really experienced in installing voodoo (glad that I can use the installer), but here I read that fastboot was added 2 days ago for Fairphone 6. But: I am a n00b who doesn’t even know what a fastboot package does …

Oh OK thanks for that, it is good to know! Hopefully, they are about to roll FP6 for the installer as well. I am not a Dev either so I’d rather wait for complete manual instructions or for the roll out to the installer…

Fairphone devices had to be temporarily removed from the graphical installer. The reason is that we implemented reformatting the FRP (“Factory Reset Protection”) partition. This was essential as if there was a registered Google account in the previous installation, and upon installation of iodéOS the user opted to re-lock the bootloader, it could leave the user with a “bricked” phone (not able to be unlocked, not able to boot). Reformatting this partition triggers a device reboot, so the graphical installer needs some minor adjustments to account for this.

Until this is re-implemented, you can flash your Fairphone using our manual process with guidance from here: ota / ota · GitLab

There is a FP6 folder, but I see manual install documentation didn’t include it so thanks for pointing that out: FP6 · master · ota / release · GitLab
