Hi,
It seems that I can’t connect to Duolingo with an email and password under iodeos 7.
Any ideas why?
This is not a problem of password or email obviously.
Not related to external dns filtering either.
Is it related to the iode blocker app ?

I know that @uninterpolated is using Duolingo, their only issue was in setting app permissions to allow the microphone for speech recognition. Make sure you look in “App Info” and allow all (necessary) permissions there. It could be that disabling the iodé app for Duolingo may be needed as well.
@uninterpolated was there any trick to getting the login to work?
@uninterpolated and also did you use the account login or did you use the Google login or Facebook login ?
I didn’t have any problems logging in. I use traditional e-mail/password authentication, though, not Google/Facebook. I’m using iodé v6. However, Duolingo has been doing some strange stuff themselves. I used to use a regular web browser on a laptop, but now when I access duoingo.com I’m prompted with a modal login (which doesn’t work!).
For me the browser experience works fine. Both on laptop and iode 7
Does your password contains any special symbols or just regular letters and numbers ?
Also @uninterpolated could you show me whether it is here or in PM the stream of data of Duolingo in the iodeos blocking app? So I can compare if you maybe let through of something on a global scale and I did not for example ?
Thanks in advance
I had the exact same problem after a recent reflash, browser worked fine, Duolingo app didn’t accept the login.
Writing to their support obviously didn’t help (never heard back for any ticket), what ultimately solved it for me was pressing “Forgot password” in the app and then setting a new one (setting a new password in the browser didn’t work, still had issues).
I’ve also checked that Duolingo has the open links permission for all the Duolingo domains, not sure if that’s part of the solution / if that was enabled by default, you might want to check that as well if it doesn’t work.
I tried disabling the iodé blocker first and checked my router logs for blocked Duolingo domains, but allowlisting those didn’t make a difference.
Well this certainly strange.
Because the only time it worked is with a very weak password and with the iode blocker disable for Duolingo specifically.
What bothers me the most is that the problem only appears in iode.
Not on stock android.
Not on iOS.
Not on a laptop in a browser.
So I am quite puzzled by it…
That is indeed very strange ![]()
I didn’t have to set a weak password, mine is somewhere between 64 - 128 characters long.
Did you have to perform a password reset in the app, or did changing it in the browser work?
I had the issue on another ROM as well some time ago, but in that case it was an issue with my router blocklist (hagezi), which got resolved.
I’ve noticed that the iodé blocker sometimes makes unsubscribe links in emails inaccessible (which my regular one does not), so maybe it’s related to that after all, but disabling it didn’t seem to make a difference for me, even after a Duolingo reinstall, hmm…
@anon73588713 do you know why I feel desperate right now ? Because it worked.
Actually it confirms that iodeos has something wrong in terms of interaction with Duolingo.
@rik it only works because the mail is triggering an active response from the app which takes you somewhere else. The forgotten password page. Then after that since it does not ask you to relog, it automatically accepts you, you are in the app.
It would be nice if you could dig in what the interaction between the login page and your os is blocking the whole process…
I’ve just set up a Pixel 7 with Iodé 7 and confirm that I’m unable to log into Duolingo with my Google account. However, I’ve switched from a Xiaomi Poco X3 Pro running e/OS A13, which I updated to A15 yesterday. To test, I logged out of Duolingo on that phone and now I can’t log in on that phone either.
I’ve now disconnected Duolingo in my Google account, turned it off in the social section of the Duolingo settings in the browser, changed my password and the app still won’t log in. I’ve also disabled protection in the permissions app. My guess at the moment if you log in with a Gmail address, which I do, the app assumes a connection to Google, but as that no longer exists, it doesn’t work.
EDIT: I’ve now changed my email address, deleted the app, reinstalled it and it now won’t log in with my new username and password. I think the app is more dependent on Google than it should be, so it’s likely to be Play Protection related.
Just helping out it but can you login to your account on a laptop with just an email?
I can, both on desktop and on phone, and it works, but it doesn’t keep track of everything.
One problem at a time if you don’t mind.
So you can login with only an email and password in your browser ? The link to your Google account was just a side option correct ?
That’s correct.
@simongreenwood sell even if you unlinked your Google account it should keep the progress because the progress are stored in the cloud storage of Duolingo, but yeah we don’t are not yet sure how deep the problem with iodeos is .
@rik at some point will you be able to confirm that you are working on it ?
Daily double and triple XP awards don’t sync, interestingly enough - I’ve been testing a few phones with different OSes recently and found that.
As I mentioned Duolingo also isn’t working on e/OS 3.3 on Android 15 on a Xiaomi phone I have here so there is a common problem.
I believe the issues you are facing are related to not having full “Google Play Services” meaning any de-googled Android ROM with microG (/e/OS, LineageOS for microG, iodéOS, CalyxOS, etc) would show the same issue. As such, it is at microG where any debugging / fixes would need to be done.
Unfortunately with our small team it is beyond our scope to dig too deep into closed-source app compatibility issues arising from Google Play integration. We need to mainly rely on the microG team for this.
Dear @rik thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately in my experience it is no microg problem. I switched from LINEAGEOS yesterday with absolutely no problems with duolingo there. Wanted to get some more parental control over my children’s accounts. Would be really happy to pay for that! I had to learn that Duolingo login doesn’t work on iode anymore. It did and does work on web, workaround is a browser app on the home screen. Deactivating iode blocking or switching to email login as suggested didn’t work as well. Please have a look in this problem, I think parental control is pretty important on iode and Duolingo an important app. BTW: Happy new year everyone!
