The problem was: the app recognized, that my tablet was not secured by a PIN code, password or pattern and refused to let me do what was requested. I personally see no need to use any of that, as I don’t use it outside my home. Anyway, I went with the pattern, all good …
This morning the described problem showed up, I’m locked out of my tablet. So here’s the question: does anybody know a way how I can kinda overrule the system to log-in again and then change the settings?
Hi Volker, thanks for your suggestion, but it did not work. Did a factory reset, lost all data & settings, but now I’m back in the game.

Out oft couriosity I installed Duolingo on my phone, a Samsung Galaxy S4 mini (GT-I 9195). It took a while but it worked. Then I tried to log-in and here I succeded! The phone is running DivestOS/Android 11. Unfortunately the phone is too weak to use the app on a regular base. It’s got only 1,5 GB RAM, you need a lot oft patience …
So, imo either Iodé or Lineage messed something up while updating their software since the days oft (at least) Android 11.
