Will there be an official buiild for the Pixel 8a

Good to hear! Can you comment on any other observations (I would guess mainly on hardware compatibility)? Your feedback will help move this to a “stable” release sooner.

Hardware works wonderfully. I can’t detect any hardware errors.
Only updates (OTA) do not work. But I think that’s normal in a beta.

Yes, I suspect that is only due to there not being a device folder for akita under the OTA repository.

I’ll report back to the devs that everything is running well for you after getting the new build that fixed the bootloader re-locking. Thanks!

Wanted to chime in and day Ive also tried out this build and havent had any problems to report other than the lack of updates. Would installing the beta updater show the new beta builds?

Yes, if you have the Beta Updater then updates will be detected and installable from it. Later when “stable” builds are added, you can “Uninstall updates” from the Updater app to get back to it looking only for stable updates.

UPDATE: I now see a stable OTA update directory for shiba, so you should find that updates to it will be published now without using the beta updater.

Happy to announce that there is now an official build:

this means you can the automated installer is supported, as well as bootloader relocking.

@rik Will you continue to make your unofficial (userdbug, support for rooted debugging) build for this device now an official (no userdbug, no support for root debugging) build is available?

Yes, I’ll keep making these for the time being, as there may be existing users that prefer it (and don’t worry, P4a sunfish unofficial builds too  )

I am using a Google Pixel 8a with iodeOS 6.7-20250919-akita.
When I check for updates, I get a message saying that the update search has failed. However, Akita is listed in the OTA repository.

I am asking if there is anything apparent to the devs. In the meantime, could you try to manually download the OTA update and install via “local update” from the updater app to see if that works?

UPDATE: I got a reply saying a fix was made on the OTA server. So before you try “local update” can you simply try to refresh to see if the OTA update works normally now?

An update has now been offered. I was able to install it successfully. However, Safetynet in microG still fails.

..and it always will: the Safety net check in microG still uses a Google API which is no longer available. That can’t be ‘fixed’ in IodéOS. It will probably be removed by the upstream microG project and / or replaced by a new ‘Play Integrity’ check.
