Forgive me if this has been asked before. I did my best to search the forums and I can’t quite get this settled to my satisfaction. Based on what I read here, it sounds like all officially supported devices should support updating the Android version OTA barring any unforeseen circumstances from now on. Is that correct?
I am also curious about locking the bootloader after initial installation. It appears only Pixels support this right now? Is there anything to consider with this and the Android-version upgrades?
Fairphone, Google, Motorola, and Shift all support re-locking the bootloader. (Or you can read that as only OnePlus, Samsung, Sony, Teracube, and Xaomi dont support re-locking the bootloader )
Major upgrades are typically OTA installable on iodé officially supported devices unless it isn’t possible :-). If a device requires a partition layout change on a newer Android base, for example, then it would require a full flash, this has been (part) of the problem on Samsung device upgrades. I couldn’t give any device specific info, however, on what is “more likely to be supported the longest with OTA updates”. The future will make it all clear, but then we are in the future, not in the past (now )
