Upgrade to 6.6 Caused Cell Service Loss

When I allowed my Pixel 8 Pro - Husky to upgrade to iode v6.6, I lost cell phone signal. Meaning, no cell voice or data, the signal bars turned into an exclamation mark (!) and says “No Service”.

I called my cell provider and switched from a physical SIM card to an eSIM, did not work.
We reset all of the phone network settings, did not work.
My cell provider reset their side of the network, did not work.
I purchased a brand new unlocked Pixel 8 Pro phone and installed iode 6.6, received a new eSIM from my provider, did not work. Exactly the same issue with different hardware.

At this point, I believe it’s a firmware issue caused by iode. I emailed iode yesterday and have not received a response.

Anybody else having this issue?

I had similar issue with not able to call. But the issue was a bit different. I tried turning off SefetyNet. Maybe try that. After turning it on, it didn’t block the phone calls anymore.
Edit: typos

I have looked everywhere, where do I find SecurityNet settings? Do you mean SafetyNet?

Sorry, yes SafetyNet.

Did you check APN settings? Possibly they got reset or deactivated with the upgrade?

I am unable to locate the APN setting on v6.6, maybe because I do not currently have a SIM activated, as I’m waiting on my cell provider to call me back.

From what my cell provider and I have noticed so far is that the IMEI number reports to the cell network incorrectly. They email me a eSIM QR code, I scan it, and a strange IMEI number gets reported to the cell provider… an IMEI that’s not one on my phone. Why is it getting a random IMEI?

Keep in mind, phone was working until the 6.6 upgrade.

I have tried two separate Pixel 8 Pro’s , so it’s not the hardware.

What did iode change in 6.6 and how can I flash 6.5 and go back?

Hello thank you for this report. I had some other issues and got the feeling, that the iode support is just for the feeling, that somebody could care for you. In reality, they can’t help you. Maybe they have a few developers, but the support is bad. I got answer e-mails, that did not help at all.

I think I will not take any more updates. After my last update the phone (xperia 1 v) does not ring when using a wired headset. I contacted support and got no help.

iode is a professional ROM and not for beginners. It’s only for specialists who can help themselves in an emergency and have a lot of experience. But as we said, it’s not for beginners or laypeople. Only for cracks and power users…

That is certainly not the impression given by the iodé website

The iodé blocker is the most powerful and easy-to-use mobile adblocker, keeping you and your family safe from trackers.

With iodéOS, the power of open source allows people to continue to use devices no longer supported by manufacturers, with continued security updates. This ensures accessibility to a wider base of people, organisations and businesses.

We empower digital sovereignty

No mention that digital sovereignty is only for 'specialists, cracks` (what?), or ‘power users’

Same problem here on Pixel 5.
I guess it due to the migration to OpenEUICC.

It was mentioned in the blog: OpenEUICC: Replacing Google’s eSIM Management

Tried out 6.5 → uses Google’s SIM Manager. Works like a charm.
Upgraded again to 6.6 → existing eSIM did not show up.

If I want to download my eSIM, i only get a mostly black screen with “Select or confirm the eSIM you would like to download to:” but no actions except “back”.

Very unfortunate if you can’t trust an upgrade due to the possibility to loosing connectivity :frowning:

And both had the same issue of losing cellular connectivity? Both were tested with the physical SIM? Just trying to understand.

So now this physical SIM has been deactivated? Any chance to re-activate? I would put more confidence in getting that working than in the eSIM world: not denying your issue with the physical SIM but I would hope we could resolve that.

I am not sure how to migrate back to Google’s eSIM Management, is it just reinstalling the packages from Aurora? Truly ignorant on this one. I will open an issue report for this one if it seems not easily reverted.

I have the same issue with my physical SIM.

If this is not easy to fix, then Iode should withdraw the update.

Installing the SIM Manager via apk did not help me :frowning:

Now I am in the situation, that both my phones (Pixel 5 and 8) don’t detect any eSIM cards any more - they were fine before the update (and e.g. on stock or LineageOS).

How is such an critical issue handled at iodéOS?

mostly due to ignorance and sitting it out …that’s why I switched to GOS after 3 years

Are update issues happening on a regular basis?
Still evaluating iodéOS. Graphene updates flawlessly for 2 years now :man_shrugging:

I posted to the telegram / matrix channel to look for some assistance.
