Updates and recovery system

Hi all,

after having so much trouble after an update last year, I didn´t dare to do another one. But now I am really far behind and I need to update to Version 7.

The updater warns me you need to have a compatible recovery system running. How do I know, if I am having it? Do phones sold by iode always have this?

And - before starting the update I am asked if I want to update the recovery too. This option is not choosen by default. Should I choose this or not?

As I am not firm in the whole android thing, I would be very glad, if someone could answer my questions and explain me a little bit more.

Have a good day

Which version are you on?

How did you do your data backups in the past?

I am still on Version 6.4 :face_with_peeking_eye: (as installed and delivered by iode after having troubles)

I did a backup via seevault and on on a usb-stick

:+1: for the backup.

Okay. So you did receive a message in your news app in December about the switch to iodé version 7?

(Here is a screenshot from my Motorola, your date may vary).

What happens if you follow those instructions?

Thanks MissPiggy!

Yes I recieved the message to switch the version.

If I follow the instructions I am being asked to update the updater app - which I did. Then I could download the update.

If I click on install I get this notification which made me write the post above: that I need to have a compatible recovery system running on my phone to perform the update.

And I started to question wether I have it or not/where I can see it.

Okay, that clarifies the starting point.

I think, @rik or @Oliver (Oli, vielleicht wieder sowas wie im Mai?) will have to take over from here on.

You have a compatible recovery if you haven’t custom modified or replaced it, which I don’t think you have.

What the message is saying is if there isn’t a compatible recovery detected, then it won’t be able to boot that recovery, but it will not make any automated change to the system in that case. Instead you will just have to restart your phone and keep using v6.4, letting us know if you couldn’t apply the update.

Is that just for Samsung devices? I never had that with my Motorola …

Yes. Samsung is a bit more challenging than others (also no 4G VoLTE / 5G calling allowed, etc.)
