Unable to import my contacts into IodéOS 4.32 / Impossible d'importer mes contacts dans IodéOS 4.32

(French version :france: after the english one)

:united_kingdom: Hi all !

To avoid loosing any contact, my “master” address book is in my computer, and from time to time, I export my contacts as a vCard file to my Contacts app in my IodéOS Samsung S10e.

Last time I did it, my Samsung S10e ran IodéOS 4.30. It worked flawlessly.

I just upgraded to IodéOS 4.32, and importing the vCard file now fails.

So I tried to do the folloing in my Iodé 4.32 phone (no computer for this test) :

  • I erased all my contacts
  • I created a new fake contact in the Contacts App
  • I exported my address book (containing only one contact) as a vCard file
  • I erased all my contacts again
  • I tried to import the vCard file I just exported, but it failed !

So Contacts fails importing its own exported files !

Is that a bug of IodéOS 4.32 ?

Is it a corrupted database in my phone (what can I do to fix it ?) ?

Thanks for your help !

Cobus.

D’avance merci pour votre aide !

Cobus.

Hi Cobus,

there are some indications, that something went wrong with the 4.32 update. My S9 suffers also from shortcomings. I hope, that the problems can be fixed by another update. This is the reason, why I recommend to be careful not to delete or modify too many data.

Regards

Tom

A hotfix build has just been pushed for all concerned devices running v4.32.

Thanks @vince31fr ! That was quick !

My Mises à jour (“Updates” ?) app tells me “Aucune nouvelle mise à jour disponible” (No new update available), though.

Where can I find the hotfix build ? How to install it ?

Do you have the normal updater or the beta updater ?

I guess it is the normal one (“Canal de distribution: stable”).

In the preferences, I just switched "Display beta updates” ON and back OFF, and a new IodéOS 4.32 dated 09-04-2026 (instead of 03-04-2026) appeared.

I guess, this is the hotfix build !

Ok good. The updater data just had to be refreshed. Yes that’s the hotfix build.

The new update fixed the problem. I am back on rails ! Thanks a lot ! :+1:

By the way, when I erase all the contacts in my phone (before importing the vCard file from my computer), I have to do it one by one, as there is no “Select all contacts” button. Could you add such a “Select all” button ?

I can add it in the to-do list yes. No ETA, of course

Thank you ! :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Have a nice day !

wokraround: to erase all contacts on a device, just delete the app storage. Long-click on the contacts app > app info > Storage & cache > Clear Storage.

@brinerustle : I tried it. It did not erase my contacts.

Thank you nonetheless !

I forgot @vince31fr : I had two other requests for the Contacts app !

• When I create a new contact in the address book of my computer (I use Mozilla Thunderbird in Debian Bookworm), the vCard file has a new entry that begins with :

BEGIN:VCARD

VERSION:4.0

I have to search and replace all VERSION:4.0 occurences with VERSION:3.0 or else the Contacts app in my phone fails to import the vCard file.

Is this something you could fix ?

• The image associated with a contact (in my computer) does not seem to be part of the vCard file. As a result, my phone has no picture of my contacts. Is there a better way to export contacts, or a workaround to transfer images separately from the address database ?

Have you tried the Fossify app suite?

Thank you @MissPiggy for your advice.

I tried Fossify Messages (a preinstalled IodéOS app) but did not like it. QKSMS was way faster. I trashed Fossify Messages and used QKSMS.

Now I switched to QUIK, which is a continuation of QKSMS. It is even better !

That won’t work. Contacts on the phone are not stored by the Contacts app, but in a separate system app called Contacts Storage (com.android.providers.contacts). So contacts will appear in any Contacts app, not just the default one. Same is true for Calendar events, stored by Calendar Storage app, and call logs and SMS messages stored in Phone and Messaging Storage app.

To delete all contacts (or Calendar events or call logs and messages) you need to clear the storage of that app. (Settings | Apps | Show all | Show system, and scroll to or search for Contacts Storage).

Be careful, deleting stuff in this way is not reversible.

Thanks for your advice, @petefoth !

First, it did not work, because I erased the data of the wrong app : “Sauvegarde locale des contacts” (Local backup of the contacts).

Then it worked when I found the right app : “Liste des contacts” (Contacts list). Thanks !

Detailed instructions (original names in french ; approximative translations in english) :

Go to “Paramètres” (Settings)

Touch “Applications” (Apps)

Touch“Afficher les xx applications” (Display the xx apps)

In the 3 dots menu, touch “Afficher les processus système” (Display system processes)

Touch “Liste des contacts” (Contacts list)

Touch “Espace de stockage et cache” (Storage and cache)

Touch “Effacer du stockage” (Erase from storage)

Touch “Effacer du cache” (Erase from cache)

Done.
