Unable to Download Fairphone Gen 6 Release

I don’t own a FP6, but I got News today (Dec 25) in my iodé news app:

“A new iodÓS update ist available in your updater. We invite you to download and install it.

Changelog: LineageOS synchronized with December security patch.”

And also:

“New phone supported: Fairphone 6”

So iodéOS version 7.1 ist the latest (stable) version.

December security patch is the platform Security Patch Level (i.e. system), not the vendor SPL. The vendor SPL is device-dependent.
For FP6, the vendor SPL is 2025-12-05, corresponding to build number FP6.QREL.15.162.0, which is the latest one.
As such, bootloader can relocked, whatever the current SPL users currently have on their phone.

Thank you for clarifying this. Where could I find that information on my device? (I know that I won’t get vendor patches anymore for my devon, but just for the records.)

But maybe the initial question was about the system SPL though, which is now also the latest one available
Vendor SPL is more important for devices with relockable bootloader, as you may brick a device due to anti-rollback protection.
The patch levels can be seen in Settings → About Phone → Android Version. Or from the sources : BoardConfig.mk · v7-staging · os / public / devices / motorola / device_motorola_devon · GitLab

BTW I had tried to find the info on the iodé homepage, but did not succeed. Did I just overlook it (possibly due to calorie overload) or is there no page with this information?

Thank you for working on a holiday! :handshake:

Interesting. My FP6 just got updated to e/os v3.3 which has Dec 1St SPL. If IodéOS 7.1 comes with the SPL dated Dec 5th, then it should be safe to install it and relock the bootloader I plan to move to IodéOS at some point but will probably still wait a bit to see what is the frequency of software updates compared to e/OS etc.

One nice thing on e/OS is the availability of the Fairphone camera app which can take advantage of optical image stabilization. Is this also available on Iodé or is this e/OS-specific?

EDIT: according to Fairphone website, FP6.QREL.15.162.0 has SPL dated on November 5th, not December… (source). So is IodéOS 7.1 SPL really Dec 5th?

Indeed, there’s an error here, the SPL in iodé should have been set to 2025-11-05…

I think it would be great if the date of SPL for the latest version is mentionned clearly somewhere (e.g. list of compatible devices). Due to the anti-rollback protection, it is really important to know that date precisely (even if it is 1st or 5th of the same month). There have been numerous FP6 users who bricked their phone by trying e.g. to move back from e/OS to FPOS and relicking the bootloader. I did not try the Iodé installer and don’t know if such things are handled internally but since there is the possibility to install iodéOS manually too, it would be important. For example, if I had tried to move to IodéOS now from e/OS v3.3 and attempted to relock the bootloader, I would have bricked my phone I guess….

I asked about this as well, it is a bit challenging to do in an automated way as part of our build system (to put the vendor SPL and system SPL dates in the build name), so it would take a good bit of time to manually tag them all.

I think the most import advice you can follow is to make sure you have “Allow OEM Unlocking” enabled before flashing, and also make sure you do NOT have any registered Google Accounts before flashing… as that may trigger “FRP” (Factory Reset Protection) that will disable “OEM unlocking”.

If you are able to unlock again even with a SPL no-boot situation you should be able to unlock and reinstall factory then try again.

But if you do this combo:

  1. Flash FPOS (it disables OEM unlocking) but don’t lock bootloader and don’t go in to re-enable “OEM Unlocking”
  2. Flash iodé, choose to lock again as part of install, and hit SPL “rollback protection”

… then you have a brick :frowning: IF you had locked as part of FPOS install, then you would need to Allow OEM Unlocking to unlock and install iodéOS: then if hit SPL you can unlock again. So it is a confluence of unfortunate events that lead to a brick unfortunately.

Note that @vince31fr is making adjustments to make sure that “FRP” is wiped out (and that “Allow OEM Unlocking” is enabled) when installing iodéOS. I believe this is already true for the latest builds.

Hi there!

I got my FP6 today and want to install Iodé on it. I tried the installer but it said FP6 is not yet supported, but I found a manual fastboot script on your GitLab here. I booted just to enable OEM unlock and USB debugging, then went ahead unlocking according to this Fairphone guide. Thought I had some issues at first (the recovery image called ‘FastbootD’ confused me, so I was helping the device boot back into fastboot which caused the installation to fail). Finally just let things run and it all went fine!
