Suggestion: add double tap to wake

While we have lift to wake, that ends up turning on my phone a lot when carrying it around. We have double tap to sleep on the status bar at the top, so why not double tap to wake option? I, as I am sure a lot of us, are in their devices a lot and will wear out the power button fast if we don’t have double tap to wake.

Can you try “System Settings > Display > Lock Screen > Tap to check phone” (and disabled “Lift to check phone”) to see if it meets your expectations?

I don’t have “tap to check phone” I only have “lift to wake”. I also disabled “lift to wake” but still no other options appeared. I thought it might be due to OS (found I was on a older version). I was running 6.3 but when I updated to 6.9 no change.

FWIW @rik I tested this on my BraX3 and no option / doesn’t work for me either.

I was just about to ask if I was missing something to get the setting to show on my Brax3

Let me check if this is a hardware dependent feature.

I got confirmation from the developers that it is indeed a hardware-specific feature, and the brax3 does not support tap-to-wake. Sorry to bring the bad news :frowning:

I dont believe its hardware related, it was possible on all of my (Sony) devices but was gone from Android 12 on…

Well I’m just going on what @vince31fr explains  . But maybe it is a combo of “hardware + Android version”? Probably the place to dig around for it being dropped from Sony devices is at at the LineageOS issue tracker:

Bummer. Thanks for checking. And strange we can have tap to sleep but not to wake? Wonder if there is something else we could have other than lift to wake to preserve the power button? Or some configuration for lift to wake?

On my Pixel 6a, a single tap wakes the screen. A double tap on the status bar ( when pulled down from the top) locks the screen. You may want to search for “tap” in your device settings to see what might be available for you…

I use WaveUp on my Xperia XZ1 Compact. To preserve the power button.

FWIW: On my Motorola G32, I can double tap. If I move the phone (wakes up to show clock) and then double tap the screen, it wakes and I can swipe up and insert my PIN. If I don’t move the phone, double tap does not wake the phone.

Cool! Is there something like this but for double tapping as well somewhere?

Not that I know of. But I like it this way, cause I sometimes use my foot to wave over my phone at the end of the couch or something and see if there’s anyhing new. So convenient.

Suits your username perfectly! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Hehe .

By the way, my Acer tablet cannot use the app, cause it has no proximity sensor.

I will give WaveUp a try. Thanks for the suggestion!

And yes my phone wakes when moved (lift to wake) and gives the unlock screen. Don’t need to double tap in this case and doesn’t do anything. The only problem with lift to wake is it wakes a lot more than it should, and then don’t when I want and I end up waving it around or flipping it to get it to turn on. Double tap to turn off on the status bar works fine, just won’t wake that way. And apparently it is missing some hardware to do so.

It does not with my device. It just shows the date, the time and the percentage of battery and a symbol if new Threema messages have arrived. I still need to either use the power button to really wake it or double tap. Then I have to wipe upwards and THEN I can enter my PIN.
