Hi,
I have recently installed Iodé on my device and am curious about the state of FOSS in the OS. From what I can tell, most of it is, or at least was, open source, but a lot of stuff in relation to this confuses me.
The repositories found in the project that is linked from Iodé’s website are quite outdated in many places with commits from long ago and no branches since varying past versions, such as 5.1 or 5.2. Some places seem to have been updated within the last month or 2, others haven’t been updated since half a year ago.
In particular, I was interested in the standout feature, the Iodé app, which hasn’t been modified for 6 months in the repository. As it may simply not have had the need to be updated since then, I investigated it and built an apk myself. Interestingly, the resulting apk is of version 2.2.5 instead of the current 3.1.1 that shipped with my 5.4 system and the difference in versions is obvious through the UI as well.
As this stuff isn’t really documented and the only official reference about this is a post in 2022, I am wondering what the current state of things are with that. Is Iodé just generally really late with open sourcing stuff or are they just proprietary now?
