Sony Xperia XA2 Pioneer, official build 6.7 broke Hotspot

Hi! After the the OTA (wohoo!) update fro 6.6 to 6.7 the hotspot function is broken unfortunately. When I press the slider it doesnt even move but just says “error” underneath.
Is this the right place to report this, do I have to tag somebody?
If I understand it right rolling back to 6.6 would be a factory reset if I understand that right, and there is not the possibility for a “dirty flash” as via adb sideload, is that correct?

Edit: and I didnt find an unofficial Iode build for Pioneer, is there one?

Yes you are right a rollback to 6.6 would have to be a clean install, but it may not be possible to even locate the old builds, only the past couple versions are kept. BTW, v6.8 is now the stable version.

Let’s see if we can get some more feedback on if hotspot is broken for others with an XA2 from v6.7+ . @Russian_Spy_Bear I think you have this device?

Yes I did @rik but decided to update it OTA with 6.8 last Saturday. Wouldn’t installing 6.8 be the answer as @petefoth has suggested earlier on a similar thread?

Just installed the 6.8. OTA, the hotspot error is still there unfortunately. Is it working on your device @Russian_Spy_Bear (cool name btw…)?
If yes, how can I find the reason why its not working on my device?
And: is there a manageable way for a beginner to make an ADB “sidloadable” .zip out of the fastboot.zip? Then I would dirty flash 6.6. and see if the hotspot is still broken.
It worked before updating to 6.7. back then.

Tried connecting my spoofing phone (XA2 e/OS) and then an xperia 10 iii (stock android 13), and when scanning the hotspot QR code on my XA2 (6.8), they both report the same error ‘QR code is not a valid format’. Appears the bug has been transferred undetected from 6.7 to 6.8. I don’t use the hotspot option very often so is almost certain I have had no reason to try it on either 6.6, or 6.7

You can reinstall 6.6 fastboot.img using the flashall method providing you can get your hands on a copy of it.

I still have the 6.6, but the flashall method means clean install right?
Would love to avoid that…

.img files are similar to .iso files for fresh install on a PC. If you want to save your data you need to use recovery mode (.zip) Or backup your data on to an SD card or transfer it to a PC via USB port, but you will still need to reinstall your apps. Only other option is to wait it out for 6.9 assuming the bug has now been brought to the attention of the team a fix in the next update should be possible.

Thanks. As I dont really understand much of this I wait for the 6.9. first.
So good Iode updates come quite regularly!

Any other XA2 users here who have the issue?
