I’m fairly new to the iodé Community and recently bought an Shiftphone 8 with preinstalled iodéOS obviously to have less Google in my life. But to my dissapointment i seem to be unable to login into my Google account on the new phone whatsoever, no matter if its Google maps, Youtube App, Aurora Store or other apps which are linked to my google account. Even linking my google account in the phone microG settings doesn’t work. I tried to browse the froum for similar problems but all entries seem to be focused on a specific service/app, so i don’t think it’s an app issue but rather a phone/OS issue in my case.
Everytime i try to login i pass the authentification step but right after Google asks “who will use this phone?” the following error screen appears ↓
Do you have the google device attestation, etc. all turned on in “Settings > System > microG”? That is the first thing to check.
Next is to sort out if you need to login or instead if you just need access to some of the Google services.
You can use DAVx5 (F-Droid) to sync Google calendar and contacts and use them with the already installed Contacts and Calendar apps (no need for the “Google” ones). But if you do want the “full fat” Google apps then yes they may not work well as they have many bits assuming underlying full Google services.
Thunderbird of course will work for Gmail (if a need).
So if you want some alternative recommendations:
Youtube: Use “NewPipe” from “F-Droid”. Why watch Youtube ads anyway?
Google Maps: I think this will be difficult, I don’t think it will run well except for from a browser. If you want “more power” than CoMaps (default) then you can use OSMAnd~ from F-Droid.
For Aurora, I know of at least 1 person I support that successfully logged in so they could get access to a paid app from Google Play, so I don’t know of issues there.
Oh indeed… The only passed device attestation is that of ReCAPTCHA Enterprise, the SafetyNet check fails and the normal ReCAPTCHA check takes ages so it shows as failed because i cancelled it. Is there a way to fix that?
Why not? Google Maps works fine for me, with no need to login to a Google account. It’s the only Google Apo I use, and it has always worked with no problems on /e/OS, iodéOS, and los4microG
