Samsung S23 unofficial os

Hi,

I’ve got my hands on a S23 envisaging it replacing my pixel 5.

To date I trawlled through the apps and initially installed aurora , fdroid, protonpass in personal and secure folder. Then removed all installed app permissions, replace with alternative , installed banking and a lot of other default apps in secure and only a few necessary ones in personal.

Now I’ve noticed that ronnz98 has posted os 6.9 so,

Q1 How do Install this zip file, can the web installer be used and how , or is there another simpler way (I’m not confident to use adb method

Q2 Is there a chance of ronnz98 good work of being official , and use the web installer.

Q3 Is ronnz98 or other developers looking at 7.4 and future os’s being available

One big warning: Samsung has blocked VoLTE for all of their devices if a custom ROM is used. So if you need 4G / 5G telephony you will need a device from another manufacturer :frowning:.

  1. For @ronnz98 's builds he should post basic instructions but basically you can follow LineageOS install, just replacing the main zip from him for the LineageOS build.
  2. It is very unlikely it would be added as an official device (since again no Telephony :frowning: )

So does 4g lte still work on custom rom. I’ll try this phone without VoLTE, does 5g data still work?

That’s bad news, it’s dashed my hopes I’ve spent a lot of effort setting it up, try it for awhile without 4g VoLTE.

If 2G or 3G networks still exist where you live, work, and travel, then it may continue to work for a while, depending on the extent of that coverage.

Long term, though… :grimacing:

4G/LTE data, sure. But not 4G/LTE calling, i.e. VoLTE.
5G - I would assume so, if it was part of stock OS.

Lineage os S23 known quirks are eSIM, IMS and Device integrity
So not looking hopeful for iode or /e/ installation.

So I’ve removed Google and Samsung accounts, only that the Samsung removal also removed the secure folder.

I had anticipated that and Install island to create work profile, surprise was I had work profile and secure folder. I expect island would delete secure folder, that happened when I removed Samsung account.

So no accounts now , waiting to find next hurdle
