Updater says update to 7.2 is available, but fails to update. I copied the URL, and it downloaded but it still hasn’t updated? I’m new to iode, do please bear with me.
To upgrade to version 7, you need to first install an update to the “Updater app” itself, as described in our iodé 7 release announcement: iodéOS 7 is Now Officially Available! - iodé So follow the link there to install the “v6-to-v7.apk” and then when you re-launch the “Updater app” you should find version 7.x available to install.
The reason this one-time manual process is needed is due to LineageOS (our upstream source) making a change that disabled major version upgrades by default (like going from version 6 to version 7).
Thank you Rick. I did as you said, downloaded the update, reopened updater, but it still shows only version 7.2 available for update, and running 6.3?
Is there a better updater I should use?
Obviously I was over thinking this. I went ahead and clicked on the 7.2 update and this time it worked flawless. Thanks for the help. Now to go to 7.4…..
You are correct, 7.2 is the most current update available.
The Brax team is making some adjustments on where to host the “OTA updates” so the 7.3 (and future) updates depend on them completing these adjustments. Here is a similar thread discussing this: Where is Iode 7.3 for Brax3?
For what purpose does this serve? There must be a reason behind it I know, just that I’m too dumb to think of it maybe.
Version 7.3 is out, but both 7.2 and 7.3 are mandatory, in that order. So, if you run a version < 7.2, you must first upgrade to 7.2, then 7.3.
If you run 6.3, you must install the v6-to-v7 updater to install 7.2, then uninstall it after 7.2 installation.
Prior to this change in LineageOS, major updates (in LineageOS) were not possible. This change allows device maintainers to allow major updates if a data reset is not required.
However, this change broke the iodéOS ability to perform major updates. That’s why a temporary updater is needed, to update from some old 6.x versions (prior 6.10) to 7.x.
Thanks so much! I’m now on 7.3. However I’m not seeing 7.4 in the updater?
Where did you read about version 7.4?
If you check here, you will find that 7.3 stable for Brax3 is only 2 days old. iodé builds are put out roughly once a month and users will be informed through the iodé news app.
If you want to get beta versions (instead of stable versions), you will need to change the updater to beta channel.
I got a message on the news app that 7.4 was available and recommended? I think I’ll just wait if 7.3 has only been out a few days… it’s working fine thus far. Thanks firbtge note.
Wait wait, there is no stable 7.4 release for any device yet? The News app news items should be tailored to the device you are on. Was the 7.4 notification possibly on another device that had a beta installer installed?
No, this is the only device I have using iode. I don’t know how that happened? Thanks for all your help, getting to 7.3!
Would you provide a screenshot of the message in the news app about 7.4? Thank you.
Unfortunately it disappeared after the uograde. I looked but couldnt find it. Sorry for not responding sooner,
