Are all devices/builds affected? Or is the kernel only used in some specific devices?
No, just just the devices listed here : Motorola G32, G42, probably G52, and Pixel 5. They are all based on kernel version 4 which received an upgrade from the same upstream repo, which will be discarded in the upcoming builds.
A hotfix build has been pushed for devon, hawao, rhode, redfin that hopefully solve the random reboots issue. Please send some feedback asap, especially for unexpected problems !
I ran a Seedvault backup – which triggers the issue for me – just before and after installing the hotfix. I observed a reboot before the installation, but none afterwards. I therefore believe the issue has been resolved. I haven’t noticed any particular regressions with the hotfix so far.
Thanks for your prompt response!
iam not having any reboots any more on my g32. thanks for the update ![]()
Same here : no more reboot.
Thanks a lot ![]()
Ok thanks for the feedback. So issue seems to be solved for Motorola (all 3 devices share the same kernel) and Pixel 5. Good !
I confirm after 2 hours + Syncthing-Fork running & synchronizing : no reboot on my Pixel 5 ![]()
Also my Devon device is stable again. Thanks for this super fast help
For now, on my Motorola G42 that looks good after the hotfix. Thanks a lot! ![]()
sorry for stupid question: how to install the fix? i do not see any update in updater app.
I did it via adb sideload. Boot into recovery mode, select “Apply update”, “Apply from ADB” (from memory) and on your computer spezify adb sideload "
thanks for responding. i think it also works via updater, what confused me is that you don’t see that the release changed both are version 7.8, only build date differs. maybe a 7.8.1 would have been clearer.
The initial build was dated 2 September; the hotfix is dated 6 September. As you say, only the date has changed in the updater.
Hi everyone,
For me the problem is also fixed on my pixel 5. I’d like to thank everyone who contributed.
I have one issue now though: I factory-reset my phone before the fix was available, and now (with the fixed 7.8 version) whatsapp refuses to register. Anyone else here having this - or similar - issues?
I also have the issue on FP5 since upgrade to 7.8
It happens also w/o any interaction. I left the phone alone and after 30 minutes it was stuck in the “press button to boot" screen.
There are some other threads on this, it could be permissions. But please follow up on the other threads for WhatsApp or start a new one.
@ufo you “liked” this comment do you have FP5 random reboots after 7.8 upgrade too?
Congrats to the iode team for the reactive fix ! Always a pleasure to use your OS !
