since CalyxOS doesn’t get any Updates for the next 6 month, I decided to switch to IodeOS.
I installed it on a Pixel 6 and it works perfectly. The Iode app to analyse and block unwanted traffic is really a great feature. Thank you for that.
Now I realised that for the Pixel 9 there is still no official firmware.
Are there any news on that? Will it ever be officially supported?
Does the unofficial build for the Pixel 9 work?
Is anyone here using it at the moment?
Currently the official developers don’t own that device so they would need to purchase it, create and test builds, and then it would become “Official”. I think this device is high in their list of “next to support” devices, but of course no specific “ETA”.
I know there are a few users using my “Unofficial” builds on a Pixel 9. All should work that I know of, but you won’t be able to re-lock the bootloader, and you will have to manually apply monthly updates as I release them.
Thanky you.
I tested my apps on a Pixel 6 with /e/OS. The bootloader cannot be relocked there either.
The health insurance apps do not start because they seem to recognize this. I guess I will have the same problem with IodeOS on the Pixel 9. Is my assumption correct?
Please excuse my ignorance. I’m still new to firmware flashing. How exactly does applaying monthly updates work?
I guess I have to download the update and flash it via PC. By doing that no data gets deleted. Is this right?
Officially supported iodé devices can lock the bootloader. Pixel 6 is officially supported. But also even unlocked devices may pass the check as the Safetynet implementation is more complete than my experience with /e/OS was (cross tested about 9 months back).
IodéOS releases monthly security patches as does /e/OS, but is quicker to make major version updates available than /e/OS. The updates just come from the updater app as OTA. But the unofficial builds would need downloaded and applied… I have on my to do list to get OTA support for them.
Regardless, since unofficial builds do not use the official signing keys, it means when an official build becomes available you will need to install it from your PC, I am hoping you can keep userdata untouched but it may require a clean install.
OK. I will wait a couple of weeks and see what’s happening with CalyxOS and will then decide if I switch to IodeOS.
Thank you for the detailed informations.
Sadly, Calyx just announced they are suspending all builds, meaning they won’t even have security patches built for the next 6 months (and it isn’t clear what will happen after that). I have a lot of respect for their project, but with the lead dev and founder having now left in the past month it is a time of real upheaval for them
I really hope they will come back with their OS.
Flashed IodeOS on my Pixel 9. Man, was I nervous. But everything went fine.
Bootloader is still unlocked and won’t try to lock it.
I hope that all my apps will work. Fingers crossed.
Ok. All apps are working so far.
Even the health insurance apps “DAK App” and “DAK ePA”. Don’t know why it refused to install on the official IodeOS build on the Pixel 6.
Even the Google Pay alternative from my bank “Mobiles Bezahlen” is working normal.
