I have several apps that now complain about push notifications being unavailable, some of them even report an error and won’t work at all.
I don’t know if this is related to the latest update, or if this is google screwing things up. Is anyone encountering similar issues?
Can you confirm things are still enabled in your microG settings for “cloud messaging” / push notifications?
Yes, i checked and they were.
I just rechecked. I gave a try to mark them as unregistered, then re-registered them. Now they are marked as unregistered, even though registration is enabled.
You may need to clear the storage / reset the apps. If they get dis-associated with cloud messaging they may keep some configuration that indicates that push notifications aren’t available and not attempt to re-register (depending on how they are written)?
I uninstalled then re-installed one of the problematic apps. But i couldn’t finalize its configuration because of push notifications error. And now it neither listed as registered or unregistered in cloud messaging push notifications.
Obviously this app has notifications permission.
Apps like Whatsapp or others require SMS and Phone permissions to complete registration, not just push notifications, which are only triggered after authentication has been completed. In fact, I am not sure of many (any?) apps that use only “push notifications” themselves to complete the authentication. What app are you attempting to re-register with?
