On my Fairphone 5, iodeOS 7.8 I have been using Proton software with no problems for several months. The only problem relates to the mail app(ver. 7.11.8), not web based mail.
I the app attached jpeg looks like this… and is not downloadable.
Got the “standard question” from Proton support, is the device rooted? They also suggested downloading APK from their own repository. I declined d/t lack of knowledge on installing such software.
Could this relate to any security settings in IodeOS?
Where did you get your Proton app from in the first place?
You could try Obtainium - they can take apps from Proton’s Github. Disclaimer: Never used Obtainium myself, but read about it in Kuketz-Forum where a lot of security nerds are meeting.
But as far as I can remember, I didn’t have that issue in version 7.8 either.
Was the problem present in earlier versions?
I installed Proton Mail from Obtainium.
Obtainium? This makes using iodeOS pretty demanding. I don’t have a clue about how to install from there. Why doesn’t other apps require this procedure?
If you’re already on ver. 7.11, you probably don’t want to regress to 7.9. The apk on Proton’s own website is ver. 7.11, so if they’re recommending to try that instead of the 7.11 apk that you got from (store?), why not do that? The instructions for verifying the sha256 signature are there on the site.
Or, try uninstalling, then reinstalling the app from (store?) to see if it fixes itself.
You could also just wait for the next update to 7.11 from (store?) to see if it gets fixed.
P.S. I get the ProtonMail app from Proton’s website. I’m on 7.9, as I haven’t downloaded the latest apk yet. No problems for me with attachments. I’ll try 7.11 later.
Note that directly-downloaded apk files generally don’t receive automatic updates.
I didn’t say you have to use Obtainium to install the app or that it works that way, but personally, that’s how I do it.
Obtainium lets you install apps directly from source (GitHub, Codeberg, etc.), such as Vivaldi, Mullvad… and apps from the Proton ecosystem, among others:
Reminds me of the times when I worked on a Windows computer, the server was Linux and all other colleagues had Macs. When they sent mails with attachment and just dragged the attachment with the mouse into the mail, I could not open them. If they used the “proper way” to attach a file, it worked. We did not find a solution to this problem until I quit that job …
