Problem with Banking Apps

I am very happy with my Samsung Tablet and preinstalled iode 7.3 …

But unfortunately I get none of my banking apps (Wero, IngDiba, SecureApp) working

First I tried to install them in the Private Space in order to isolate the “bad” apps from Aurora Store from the “good” ones.

Second I disabled the iode Blocker for these Apps - still not working.

Third I tried with WiFi (may my PI-hole iin my local network blocked?) and also with the LTE network - no way.

The problem is always that from some point on the app is simply not reacting and running into a timeout. Cleaning Cache etc. did not help either.

Questions:

  • Running these Apps in Android’s Private Space is not recommended with iode?
  • It can be a problem with missing Google Play Services?
  • Where can I find documentation of iode Blocker?
  • Where can I find help with configuring MIcroG properly if really needed?

I did not want to mess up the Table with “working” Apps in thhis forum - that’s why I am starting this thread - hoping to get some new ideas …

SCNR: With GraphenOS banking apps are fine :winking_face_with_tongue:

I would be quite certain you need microG for device attestation and Google device registration. Banking apps don’t typically acknowledge that you can be secure without those :frowning: But as you note, even still several banking apps may not work (but many do). In general, you can use Plexus from F-Droid to check your specific apps, but I looked them up for you:

  • Wero: I see a “Gold” rating from just a few weeks ago with microG (Shiftphone stock OS but they note it is microG is that true?) Many of the “broken” are with LineageOS not sure if they have microG device spoofing enabled like with iodéOS so I guess it would take re-testing?
  • IngDiba: “Gold” rating
  • SecureApp: Maybe you mean “SecureGo+”? If so I see mixed “Gold” rating or maybe “Silver”?

Personally, I run my banking apps in Shelter so I can “freeze” them when not being used to ensure not just running all the time and so they don’t have access to my main profile. There are many threads here on that.

To iodé blocker documentation, here you go:
Graphical front end: iodé app - iodé
Technical back end: iodé Adblocker (The iodé Blocker) - iodé

Thank you for these hints!

I checked my MicroG settings and they are enabled (in both profiles).

Regarding Shelter: Is it still required ? Android has introduced this Private Space with version 15 - I thought that Shelter is obsolete now?

I will do some more trials and let you know … at least there is some hope now that I will manage this problem

Private Space doesn’t let you freeze or unfreeze individual apps, it is “all on or all off” I think right? There are some other discussions on here about Private Spaces, in the end I didn’t find it doing what I needed, but I haven’t re-tried for a good while now.

Convinced. I gave up on Private Space and installed Shelter (like on my Nokia Phone).

But before starting with isolating the App (e.g. Wero) I have to get it running on the tablet in general. So I installed it from Aurora Store and tried to start it (and saw at least blocking in the iode blocker). After several trials to allow all requested connections - I gave up and disabled the iode blocker in general. Little success: the configuration of the Wero showed up - but only once …
Even after cleaning cache, granting Android permissions, reinstalling the Wero App, disabling the iode blocker etc. the App still does not work.

So I am wondering, if it is a problem of iode or a problem of the App itself on an Android tablet?

@rik You have a iode tablet available and install this damned Wero app?

I am just running out of ideas what is going wrong here …

EDIT: May the Wero app requires NFC (not available on this Samsung tablet)?

Since I started OpenMobile (to sell phones with iodéOS preinstalled to North American users), I have several phones to test on, but, alas no tablet (I only order those from my supplier when individually requested since there is lower availability)

But to the Wero app, I can’t download it here (probably regionally blocked) so I got it from APKPure and did install it, but I think you are going to need someone with an account to actually test it: I get to the Login page, but I doubt you want to share your info with me for testing

@rik

You’re right, Wero is a digital european payment solution, not available in the US/North America:

Wero - Europäische Zahlungslösung
