I am on GOS which is on Android 16. Do I need to go down to Android 15 in order to install officially?
iodéOS 7.x is due to be released as “stable” in the very near future, so the underlying A16 base may be fine. However, Graphene modifies underlying bits that may result in issues with the resulting iodéOS install. LineageOS install advice makes it very clear that only using the manufacturer’s stock ROM is supported (but again feel free to try, its your device!).
So if you wan to install stable today, then downgrade to A15 stock, install iodéOS 6.9, and when 7.0 stable is released you will be able to upgrade to it.
So, I need to downgrade to A15 even for an official build? OK, thanks!
Yes, that is the recommended method. You can use flash.android.com in a Chrom(ium) based browser.
So, I went ahead and did this, following the instructions. Things look OK, but for one irritating fact, and that is my fingerprint does not get recognized. I have removed stored fingerprints, put new ones back in, but to no avail. I recall having this problem earlier too (unofficial 6.7) after which I went to GOS. This was not a concern with either GOS or the earlier CalyxOS. So, I have been wondering if there is some setting which is blocking this? Otherwise, things look great.
Also, restoring from my USB drive did not work: claimed no .SeedVaultAndroidBackup, However, the USB viewed from spacefm on Fedora says it is there. Luckily, I stored my contacts so this is not that serious, and I can build the rest easily.
I haven’t heard of any issue here, well apart from Pixel 6 devices having a bit of a dodgy FP sensor but that is across the board I understand
. I do find the under glass ones (even on a Pixel 7 Pro) to just not be that reliable: I often register the same finger multiple times (one when cold, one when hot, one when damp, for example)
. But it could be something we look for broader feedback on, maybe a dedicated post on that issue?
I am far from am expert on this, having only used Seedvault a few times for light testing, but in my case I moved the .SeedvaultAndroidBackup folder to the home directory, then used the “Restore” option.
Thanks very much for this!
I was just wondering if there was some security setting which was preventing my fingerprint from being read since I have not been able to access using that even once. Likely, there is some settinthat is the issue. I have never tried LOS on this phone, and I am wondering if I should do that next just to see. But before that, I was wondering if there was some security block I should be looking out for.
Btw, the installer is really cool: in one way, it is better than flash-android or GOS or Calyx because it does not depend on a browser. I wonder if LOS can use a similar tool to make it more convenient for users to install, and increase accessibility.
Ths .SeedvaultAndroidBackup is in the outside directory of the USB (which I presume is the home?) Or is there some other home directory somewhere?
Many thanks again!
