Pixel 8 not looking for wifi networks

Thanks. I’m reading through this, and you might have to explain it to me like I’m in second grade, even though I’ve installed Linux systems on laptops from a USB boot many times.

If I’m reading this right, it looks like I need to download a bunch of things (or use sudo commands) on my Linux laptop and then link a USB cable between my laptop and phone. The bootloader screen on my phone that appears when the phone boots up (telling me I’m running something other the Google) is the first time I’ve seen anything on that bootloader and I’ve never run commands on a phone before. Do I need to download Android Studio onto my laptop or do those command lines install it?

You will need “usb debugging” and “allow OEM bootloader unlock” enabled from Developer Options first (tap build number in Settings > About Phone 7 times, then go to Settings > System > Developer Options).

Depending on your Linux distro, you likely need android-sdk-platform-tools installed (Ubuntu and variants).

Then, find the build you want to install, and just click the “flash” link next to it, job done  It will ask you to “allow” the ADB connection when you “add” your device to Chromium, and then it should proceed with flashing just in the browser.

I just did this process successfully with a Pixel 9 Pro today (it was delivered to me with Android 17, I downgraded to the May 2026 Android 16 release using the above process, then flashed iodéOS.

If you don’t want to deal with all of this or get stuck, I could work with you at https://openmobile.us happy to help more!
