Device: SHIFT6mq
iodéOS Version: 6.17 → 6.18
Affected App(s): Updater
Short Description:
Updating from 6.17 to 6.18 fails. A notification only says update error, no other information. The Updater immediately returns to displaying install.
I cleared the Updater data, rebooted, downloaded again: same result.
A week ago it succeeded on a different SHIFT6mq.

I don’t know if the underlying problem is the same as the one I expose in the topic “System update on the Xiaomi Mi 9 is impossible - both OTA Updater app and ADB Sideload fail due to legacy /cache dependency ”, but the behaviour described by OP is the same as when trying to update from 4.35 to 4.36 on the Xiaomi Mi 9.

I have no clue whether this is related, but I doubt because it worked on a different device of the same model and ROM version.
@rik Do your devs have an idea?

Sorry not sure how I missed a reply to you, but did you “long press Updater icon > App Info > Top right 3 dots > Uninstall Updates” and then refresh the Updater to check for the new version, and does it install?

Meanwhile I found out that a Magisk module didn’t work correct. Re-installing it solved the issue.
