Ooh La Laaa......Graphene abandon France dissing Murena and iode on the way out

Typical behaviour of GrapheneOS. I think it’s best not to take it too seriously.

Sad to see that “the alternatives” are fighting each other and playing into the hands of their actual opponents. Whether it’s custom ROMs, media, or political parties—instead of focusing on common ground, personal vanity takes center stage.

Paranoia will destroy ya.

The very reason I turned away from Graphene and won’t go near it, despite recommendations by reliable commentators like Naomi Brockwell… Its what happens when the entire thing is solely reliant on one unstable problematic individual.

i found Graphene way too limiting. Iode has way more freedom with system controls even without root. i tried Graphene for a week and was driven crazy from how little control i have. i found that Iode even runs smoother than Graphene and stuff installs much quicker on Iode, where Graphene seems to take forever to update apps. Iode is a winner for me. and Iode has a much nicer blocker firewall system compared, the amount of control i have is crazy.

i dont get the appeal of Graphene, every person i talk to about my Pixel, they insist i use Graphene and i just say “no” and explain what i use and what it does blah blah. then it starts an arguement that feels like im arguing with an Apple fanboy

Yep, the other issue with Graphene is the community (or at least core parts of it)… While there are many good people there no doubt, there is a large portion who are exactly what you describe (and worse, they are more like fanboys of a cult of personality) - so that generally makes the community ‘problematic’ as well…

I concur with all points made here. I am a soon-to-be former GrapheneOS user. I have no problems with the OS (well, okay…updates do tend to take forever) but am leaving it for iodeOS because of the community and the overall sense of elitism, which is a real turn-off. I used my Pixel Tablet (tangorpro) as an experiment in running iodeOS and it has been fantastic. All that remains is for me to ensure all my apps are backed up, I obtain a new eSIM from the carrier (AT&T), and my Pixel 8a (akita) will be running iodeOS…can’t wait! Everyone here has been fantastic (big shout out to @rik especially), in contrast to the GOS forums, where there is (in my opinion, anyhow) a tangible culture of fear (I’ve seen instances of newbs asking valid questions get ridiculed), borderline sycophancy, and outright negativity toward respected members of the internet privacy and security world. In light of all of this, I’ve recommended my sister, who will be going the AOSP route soon, choose iodeOS and will recommend all others in a similar position do the same moving forward.

Couldn’t agree more. This board and the support it offers is 100% better organised than it was this time last year for sure. IIRC I described it as a ‘shambles’.

@jazz-linux-sino-geek and @Russian_Spy_Bear thanks for the kind words and support for the community. For me, navigating the world together as a community and mutually respecting others even if they have different priorities has to be a foundation of any movement I will be a part of, with of course technical excellence being an essential second component.

In the current discussion, you can find many examples of others that have tried to correct inaccuracies or deny false accusations in direct engagement with those making them, and, sadly, it has never gone well. So while there are many misstatements in other forums and places regarding iodéOS we simply won’t engage in discussion on those terms in those places. Without acknowledging or responding to any accusations, I may try to make a few posts to clarify some things like how security updates get to your phone or others as relevant.

I am copying here my reply I sent to the Telegram beta tester community (bridged to Matrix) where this same article was brought up:

As a Saab owner if someone tells me I own a Volvo I shouldn’t need to make a statement that it is not a Volvo. The car is visible for anyone to see. Or if someone tells me my hair is blonde I don’t need to make a statement that it isn’t blonde. People can see that what remains of it is certainly not blonde

My suggestion is that I don’t think there will be any official iodé statement responding to any outlandishly false accusations or suggestions.

But as a community manager sadly I guess it is necessary to make a statement that I hope is redundantly obvious to our community: iodé has not commented disparagingly about Graphene or other ROMs to any news media source.

So hopefully this can be the end of this discussion.

Thank you for this simple and clear answer. No useless polemics. And the ROMs will be well guarded.

I had the same problems. The main problem I had was poor performance, it was just slow in general with GrapheneOS, I was getting constant stuttering, there was little polish in general. Plus, my bank app works on Iode when it doesn’t on GrapheneOS. Iode is the clear winner for me and I think for most people as well. It’s unfortunate GrapheneOS seems to have not improved after Louis Rossmann called them out a while ago. Everytime GrapheneOS says something, it rubs me the wrong way…

Yep, ‘they’ (I use the term generously) have pretty much doubled-down on their obstinancy and bloody mindedness since then…
