Note taking app

Hello members,

I’m close to join Iode with my main mobile. Not last I like to check out what note taking apps( I share Keep Notes in our household) are suitable to use in Iode.

TIA

Welcome! If necessary you can continue using Google Keep to sync with others in your household (I have tested and confirmed it is working in Shelter, for example).

But to others there are just so many good options. Honestly the default in iodéOS of Carnet is quite stagnant. I personally use Joplin (I self-host the server sync component so that may not be for everyone but you can pay for them to do it as as well). If you have a Nextcloud account then there are other apps for it, etc. I used “QuillPad” for some time when hosting Nextcloud as it was quite “Keep like” but kept the files as actual markdown files. But I don’t use Nextcloud currently so then syncing was an issue. (you can also use Joplin with Nextcloud, by the way).

QuillPad: https://quillpad.github.io/

I think the best approach is to look at the backend provider first (if you want to be syncing across multiple devices): if the app is tied only to its own paid subscription back end, if you can self host, if you can link it to Nextcloud, etc. So evaluate which of those models are acceptable then evaluate the actual note tools in light of what is a good backend match. If you just want local notes then it is much more flexible.

Here is a fuller list of Open Source Android compatible alternatives to Google Keep.

Thanks @rik

I’ll have a look and see which version would be the most suitable for me/us.

Important is that it is sync and both can use, e.g. KN

KN?

Keep Notes

Sorry, I could’ve spelled it out.

I was afraid of that, but wanted to confirm. There is no solution for syncing Keep with a 3rd party app, it is only usable inside the Google Walled Garden :trade_mark: :frowning: That is why I have Keep running in Shelter (frozen only occasionally launched when a family member notes I need to review her additions to the shopping list). I am trying to get them migrated to Joplin, not yet there

I’ve been quite happy with Simplenote. It’s on the Aurora store, but the desktop client is FOSS.
