Hi,
I have moved to IodeOS a month or two ago. I use Molly Foss instead of Signal.
Although Molly worked fine on other OS like CalyxOS or LineageOS, on this IodeOS installation Chat backups fail.
I see progress bar going up to 99% but in the end no backup is produced and I get the notification that backup failed.
Tried to backup off/on again, different destination folder.
Would love not losing all the msgs though.
Can you check in the iodé app if any blocking is happening? You can look at the “stream” tab to see current traffic activity. Or you can go into the detail of the app itself and disable the blocker for Molly: if you tap on the button below “Our recommendations” on the main screen it will bring up the full app list, then find Molly.
Now, I don’t really understand why the Iode App should be involved. Afaik the Iode app functions as a firewall, right?
In the case of Molly backup, the backup is a local backup to internal (or SD storage), not any cloud service or similar.
Anyways, I went into Iode app and saw
the usual “Standard” (yellow) and the wrench (blue).
Next I tapped on the > to get details.
I tapped on the blue wrench, which went grayed out. I have no subscription.
Standard means, if I am correctly reading, WiFi, Mobile and VPN blocking. But, again, I was considering local backup to a folder.
Next I disabled any blocking and retried the backup. Which again failed.
I switched Standard blocking on again.
Not sure what to do next… Any help is greatly appreciated.
I didn’t realize the backups were just being made locally, so you are correct the iodé app shouldn’t necessarily be involved there
Is there anything in Molly’s “App Info” under Permissions that references local storage?
I just tested by making a local backup with Signal, it completed successfully. I did note it (obviously) connected to chat.signal.org in the iodé app stream. Sorry I don’t have molly installed however to cross-reference.
