After Android Auto is a Google Striptease and a no-go for me,
I am interested in whether someone has experience with Mirror-Link Technology.
How do you get it up to run?
The car supports Mirror-Link.
Device is a Google Pixel 6a with Iode 6.6.
With Mirror-Link you only can mirror the phone’s display to your car’s. And it stops working when you move you car. So it’s only usable i.g. for watching videos on your car’s display during a break.
Uuh, that’s annoying and unusable.
Ok, maybe the only way to use Android Auto ,
Is it possible to use Magic Earth or CoMaps for navigation,
or does it have to be Google Maps?
Thank you.
I use MagicEarth for car navigation, works fine, the voice output goes via Bluetooth to the car audio system.
I tried Comaps for navigation, got only 1 route, ME offers up to 3 routes
Thank you for your information.
I have no experience with Android Auto.
I will test it in the next day.
Hello volker01,
I don’t know how wide spread the mirror link compatibility is, but I assume nearly no car supports Mirror Link OOTB..?
I got a car with Android Auto/Apple Car Play support and wanted to make it work with my iodeOS-Samsung Galaxy S10 (“beyond1lte”, iodeOS v. 4.24). While searching for solutions to make it kind of work I found this instructions. After some fiddling I found out that just installing these three APKs before connecting to the car does the magic:
- https://github.com/sn-00-x/aa4mg/raw/refs/heads/master/system/product/app/Maps/Maps.apk
- https://github.com/sn-00-x/aa4mg/raw/refs/heads/master/system/product/app/GoogleTTS/GoogleTTS.apk
These APKs do simulate the presence of the unwanted/privacy desaster Google apps.
While speach input and TTS doesn’t work, my car now shows all AA supporting apps right on screen. Now you just need to find AA supporting apps for your needs.
For even more wireless convenience I’m using this USB adapter (Please note that the wireless AA solution drains your mobile’s battery pretty fast so Qi-Charging or the like is recommended.).
Even if this port is slightly off topic I hope that helps.
kind regards
Chris
Thanks for the hints. I’ll try it out in the next few days. The vehicle here has the option of Android Auto or MirrorLink to choose from. However, I didn’t manage to connect with MirrorLink. However, I didn’t have much time either.
