Log-in problem with ebay app

Hi folks, l’m the new guy in town…

Since one week I’m the proud owner of a Samsung Galaxy Tab 5e Wi-Fi, running iodè OS. Everything works fine so far, the device is fast and responds snappy. :grin:

But there’s one problem I have: I can’t use the ebay app. :face_with_diagonal_mouth: Everytime I try to log-in into my account I get an error message saying “a problem occured” with no further explanation. I looked up the internet and it seems to be a widely known issue. The ebay support was contacted several times by other users but the only advice from their side was/is to reinstall the app. Did not/does not help.

So, I wonder, could this have something to do with the use of Custom ROMs(users, who got in contact wirh ebay have/had the problem with Google Android & iOS)? Does/did anyone else have the same problem? Does anyone have a hint/any advice for me? By the way, my native language is german, so if any german speaking member likes to answer “auf Deutsch”, feel free… :grin:

Thanks in advance!

Michael

As far as I know and if I remember correctly it is a safetynet problem.
Not only on iode
Only workaround is to use the Webinterface instead of the app

Seconded. This has been a problem for a while with all LineageOS-based custom ROMs. Just uninstall the app and use the web interface in your browser

Well, ok… :rage:

So, then it’s no more ebay on the tablet. Thanks a lot, everybody!

Don’t you have a web browser on your tablet? Or is there a reason why Ebay via the browser doesn’t work for you?

Hey @petefoth,

of course I have a web browser on my tablet, I’m using the “onboard” browser (iodé browser). But I find it more comfortable to use the app to access ebay. That’s the only reason I don’t want to use the detour via ebay’s web interface…

Hey.
Frag mich nicht wie ich darauf gekommen bin, meine Lösung war eBay als Apk Datei runterzuladen. Dann mit der APP ‘ApkMirror Installer’ installieren.
3,2,1… :slight_smile:

Most shopping ads are full of spyware anyway. The Amazon one my partner has on her tablet is absolutely loaded with the stuff. I use the browser (Cromite), instead for all such purposes as it keeps it sandboxed so cannot interfere with any other background apps that may be running at the same time.

As a consequence of the recent changes to do with signature spoofing, it seems that the Ebay app now works again with v5.8 :slight_smile: (at least on my unofficial build for lilac)

found code signature of the following trackers + permissions in the application:

@petefoth,
not on my side …

Did you uninstall the earlier version of the Ebay app.

Which IodéOS build are you using, and which device?

@petefoth

My hardware is the Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e (Wi-Fi) and I’m running the latest version of iodé. Yes, I did install the latest version of the ebay app, but no change to the former one…

But everything’s ok, I’m fine with the situation as it is. Whenever I want to use ebay, I switch to my laptop.

Oh, by the way: HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYBODY! :fireworks::sparkler::tada::tanabata_tree:

Thanks for sharing information on this, I am experiencing the same issue with eBay on both my Fairphone4 and my Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e.

In Ireland, we use two other second-hand platforms, called Adverts.ie and Donedeal.ie. Neither of these work well on my iode devices. They crash in a smiliar way to eBay, when I search, or when a login is attempted. Would anybody know if this is also a ‘Safetynet’ problem?

(Down the rabbit hole: Both of these are owned by a company called Distilled media, which in turn seems to be owned or parnered with Adevinta which seems to have every single second hand market place in Europe, Marktplaats, Mobile.de, leboncoin.fr, and dozens more?! All these apps no doubt have tons of trackers, so I assume few of them will work on iode?)

Thanks and all the best,

C

Had this problem on every MicroG ROM i’ve used over the past couple of years. So I think unless anyone knows otherwise it probably isn’t safety net or ad blocking since I generally run with a locked bootloader and I used to main lineageos w/microg until recently.

The fix for me was to use eBay less
