So I made a build but I could not activate the keyboard at all, (the option was blurred out) have i done anything wrong?

Signing doesn’t matter.
Are you saying the toggle is greyed out in the OFF position? It should be greyed out and ON as in screenshot below.
If you made the build just now it might be better to wait until next beta OS is released and you know the sources have been pushed to Repo’s. May be later today with a bit of luck.

Thanks, i’ll try to make a build today and see if the keyboard works.
It still does not work by default but i made it work by installing another keyboard apk
