IodeOS for Google Pixel 9?

Greetings!

As you can probably appreciate, the new Pixel 9 series are on Black Friday / Cyber Monday sale at deep discounts, and I would love to buy one and put IodeOS on it right away. The only problem is, it isn’t on any support list and there is no file folder for it in downloads. I feel like I may be forced to buy a Pixel 8 Pro instead because it is currently supported.

Is the Pixel 9 series currently being worked on as a supported option? If so, can I beta test it?

Edit: It looks like GrapheneOS is already supporting it.

LOS is not AOSP and therefore Iode is not graphene

Great! Still interested to know if Pixel 9 support is coming soon, though.

There is currently no support from LOS for the 9er… so there will be no support from iode in the foreseeable future either

any update when you think iode os will support the pixel 9?

There are builds for LineageOS and LineageOS for microG available for the Pixel 9 tokay. I am not sure when iodé will officially support it, but I suspect it would not be too far away.

I could make a one-off build for you, but then updates wouldn’t work automatically once an official iodé build is available. I will be building version 6.2 for other non-supported Pixel devices in the coming week.

FYI for latecomers we now have newer builds for the Pixel 9 series listed on the Unofficial builds for Google Pixel devices thread

Hey, I just installed the latest unofficial build. Would it be safe to lock the boot loader?

Sorry, but right now bootloaders are unable to be re-locked on unofficial builds. I think it could be possible, I had some guidance on it but it is a bit complex and I haven’t found the time to dig into it.

Regarding if this means your device is not secure, here is an excerpt from a post a made a while back:

Yes true a locked bootloader is more secure but only from the risk of an “evil maid” type attack where someone with physical access to your device could possibly alter the system then you unknowingly keep using it. But even then they can’t directly get your userdata, instead they physically take the device, then install some sort of touchscreen logger, then you use the phone again, then they take your phone again, check the logs for your unlock sequence, then they can start your phone and unlock it, exposing your data.

To clarify, your userdata partition IS encrypted and only unlocked when the unlock sequence (pattern or pin) is successfully entered. This is the same if your bootloader is locked or unlocked.

Disclaimer: I am not a security expert, but understand the above to be accurate.

Hey @rik it is not a security concern.
Some apps that I use on my pixel 8 running Iode require a locked bootloader.
But that is okay it would be a nice bonus, nothing too important though…

Fair point, but you should give them a try, I often find that apps that state they require a locked bootloader (and that on other ROMs will not load for this reason) will actually run on iodé

Regarding Pixel 9 official images: hot off the press! Google Pixel 9 - iodé

I don’t think the builds are published just yet, but very very soon…

Does this “very soon” mean hours, days or months? What is the best way to be notified when it is released? I am very excited to install the official build on my Pixel 9. I am a CalyxOS user needing to migrate away.

FYI the Pixel 9, 9 Pro, and 9 Pro XL builds are now available (“not yet” for comet)

Thanks, do you know what security patch is included?

6.7 builds were just re-published today they should include the August 2025 security patches.
