Personally I would prefer it if iode were to put out their OTA updates on a bi-monthly basis with quality prioritised over quantity. With iode users wanting more models included on the supported list it is inevitable that the effort to keep them all up to date is going to stretch the team. As for myself and the XA2’s I’m just glad that it survived the cut and Android 15 is on its way. Right now I’m working on a project that will allow me to stay retro whilst future proofing to 5G spec’, but I’ll post more about that when it’s done.
Sorry, I forgot that there are users who only ever read the last post, “thanks” for pointing out Iodé 7.
I have an XA2 that no longer connects to wifi since the update to Iodé 6, not funny. That was the background to my post and as Iodé is not a one man band as described, I was hoping for some information.
After getting caught out with the 5.7 update I installed iode 5.8 on a spare XA2 that I put into the demo pool. It doubles as a test bed before updating my daily driver without risking any data loss. It is very frustrating though when it happens I admit.
So I’m by no means an Android expert. Can you download and install iode 5.8 back to your phone? Or does that create a new set of issues?
I ask, because my FP4 was running perfectly on A14(honestly probably the best it ever has), but there are some oddities on A15, and so I was pondering this…
Yes, the issues between the FP4 and iode 6 are are nothing compared to some that I have read about. I should probably just wait.
I keep a copy file of all the versions I have used for install so was easy option for me as it isn’t a phone that I use, but would be a fresh install if you were to use it on a daily so say goodbye to all your apps and data. The good thing about the XA2 is that you can copy everything you want to keep on to your micro SD card so data isn’t too much of a problem providing you have one installed. Most all users have one as the internal storage is only 32gb.
@papercut …not sure if you can get an earlier copy from the Github repo’ now, but I can maybe upload a flash-all 5.8 if you are desperate.
Thank you for the offer, @Russian_Spy_Bear. It actually looks like they are still available, so I may try it just to see what happens. My phone is a Murina FP4, and I have the original firmware for return.
I dont keep any data on my phone really. Email and contacts are in Proton, and pictures are in a self-hosted Immich docker. My music is already on an SD card, and texts I can backup with Fossify. I use Obsidian for notes, bookmarks, etc, and that syncs to my desktop. So I think I’m good for the most part.
Sorry… didn’t realise you were talking about fairphone, I was thinking you were a Sony user. Not sure how that happened but if 5.8 is still up on Github all is good.
It is the same with the e-mail app, the photo view within the app does not work. What happens is exactly what you described with the MMS. I have tried Thunderbird and FairEmail.
Device: Fairphone 3
So interestingly enough, I tested mine. You are correct there too. Thunderbird does the exact same thing.
BUT… I then sent the same message to my Proton account, and using the Proton Mail client, it works as it should. I was able to open the jpg, and the full sharesheet was also available.
They must use different ways to open that picture.
Bonjour,
Version 6 is for the fireplace. How can I downgrade from version 6 to 5.8 without losing data?
because of downgrade protection not at all
Version 5.9-20250128-arm64_ab works on my Unihertz Titan (Special feature is the hardware keyboard). I like to wait for 6.x-2025xxxx-arm64_ab because the system runs smoothly and is recommended for daily use.
iodéOS 6 has WiFi problems on the Sony XA2, and these issues slipped through beta testing and wound up getting rolled out OTA (over the air) to many people’s devices. The upgrade was quickly removed so not all but a few people did the upgrade and are facing the issue. We are deeply sorry about this, and will do all we can to remediate and prevent these issues from reoccurring. As @ AlphaElwedritsch pointed out, the way Android Open Source Project is structured prevents downgrades - reverts to a previous release - for security reasons. A downgrade attack would allow reopening security exploits that were fixed in current versions.
We could not find a quick fix, which means that people with these devices must flash their device to factory image and manually downgrade or send their devices back to us if they bought them from the iodé store. Here at iodé we want to be transparent about such errors on our part and use them as opportunities for improvement, and mitigate their recurrence. We are looking into measures we can take on to prevent these kinds of mistakes in the future.
I almost always have more than one XA2 around here that’s not being used that I can offer for testing purposes if that’s any help.
Thanks for the offer @Russian_Spy_Bear. The Telegram beta tester’s group is the best place to shout out if you see any issues with a beta rollout. That said of course, best not to use as your daily driver…
Thank you for this contribution
