I was recently offered the update to version iodeOS B - 4.25 for the Xiaomi Mi 10 Lite 5G.
Unfortunately, I noticed a few strange behaviours with this update, which I would like to address here:
The previously clear list of pre-installed apps has been significantly reduced.
Instead, standard apps for notes, calendars, etc. have simply been installed, which no longer appear in the relevant overview. A brief note in the update notification would have been great. But I don’t think it’s right that these apps run directly in the background with full permissions. Especially since some of the permissions for the apps’ tasks are very intrusive. I don’t understand why a note-taking app needs access to the camera and microphone.
I also don’t understand why it is no longer possible to uninstall or deactivate all these apps. What is so important about the AudioFX and FM Radio apps that I am not allowed to deactivate them?
Best regards and thank you for developing this great operating system.
I am a bit confused. You should be able to remove AudioFX and FM Radio by using “System Settings > Apps > Preinstalled apps”, then rebooting after “deleting” them from the list.
The other apps, if they were not part of the old base image, are now part of the new base image, you can remove them as well if you choose using the same approach. Or instead were they apps you had previously removed (using “Preinstalled Apps”) and they came back? But you also say they don’t appear in the “overview” (do you mean the main App Launcher?).
Side note: a note taking app may have “features” to attach files (such as a voice recording or photo) that is why those may be permissions (which you can deny if you want, just explaining why it may be requested).
There aren’t any options for deactivation of all preinstalled apps in “system/setting/preinstalled apps”
And the two apps FM-Radio and AudioFX cannot be disabled on my phone.
Yes, i can remove the permissions.
But a information, that these apps was installed or reinstalled would be nice.
Because i think nobody is checking all apps after update, to find if there are some new ones …
Also information for changings like remove of MagicEarth and replac by CoMaps would be nice.
That’s not harsh criticism.
Thats’s a this would be better in my opinion.
You can delete the app by clicking on the trash can, after a reboot, the app is gone.
The change of Magic Earth for example was announced in the iode News dated 29.7.25
There could be some better explanation, but as @laneb notes any new (or removed) default apps are noted in the release announcement in the News app.
Regarding “Preinstalled Apps”, also as they note, by clicking “trash” and then rebooting, the apps will be “uninstalled” (you can later re-enable, then reboot again to have them re-added). A process at boot makes the root adjustments for these preinstalled apps to be “installed” at the system level or not: this also explains why if you attempt to remove them or disable them outside of the “Preinstalled Apps”, then on system upgrade they will return or be in a confused state: as they are part of the system images it is only by using “Preinstalled Apps” to remove them that the system knows to re-remove them again after upgrade.
I may not have the technical details quite right here, it is a matter of overlaying filesystems and the interaction between your userdata partition (editable of course) and the system partition (read-only), but in practice that is how it works… using “Preinstalled Apps” to remove them or re-add them is the key to how they remain removed or are re-added.
Sorry, but I feel like I’m being misunderstood here.
My problem is that the list of preinstalled apps is incomplete. There are some apps (calendar, contacts, notes, FM-Radio, AudioFX etc.) that are not listed there. Please take another look at the attached photo and the one from last time.
OK thanks for your patience I think the problem may possibly be related to your 4.x version, I don’t have any devices to check against with this older base (iodé 4.x / Android 13 / LOS 20.x).
As some other threads are discussing some issues with discrepancy between the “Preinstalled Apps” list and what the phone shows as installed there may be a general bug lurking, or again it may be isolated to the 4.x series for your case (as I don’t note any others with the issue of “Preinstalled Apps” not even showing the apps as in your case).
I am going to adjust this thread title to reference Preinstalled Apps and version 4.x to see if that will get other users into this tread.
the iodé developers are informed, and have reproduced this issue on all iode 2 and 4 builds, so a fix should arrive soon. Folks anxious to get a fix can join the beta channel..
@Privateer@Andreas fixed builds have been pushed to the “release channel” (so no need to join the beta) for v2.x and v4.x devices. When you are able, please update and report back.
Yes, it worked with the original AA app. after that no more.
That’s the reason why Iode has now integrated in the 6.x version AA Stub under pre-installed app to create the current requirements for AA.
AA Stub is not available in 4.25.
Or am I wrong?
I don’t understand what you mean by “original AA app”. AA is regularly updated via the Play Store / Aurora.
But you are right that it requires a system-level integration, hence the AA Stub under pre-installed apps. But that was always the case - and it was available on 4.x up until 4.24.
Hence this threat hoping to get it back on 4.25 and onwards
The devs did confirm that the “AA stub” is only needed for iodéOS 6.x builds, so it is expected that it is not listed in “Preinstalled Apps”. I don’t have a 4.x device to test, they indicated they would test AA and get back to me, but I haven’t gotten a reply yet.
Anyway, just clarifying the “stub” isn’t needed, and that according to the devs AA should still be working for 4.x and 5.x devices, but of course something could have changed with Google etc. so we need more feedback.
