I’d like to know how I could make the iodé news a little better readable. Did not find any app settings to make the font size smaller …

Its controlled by the font size in the (phone/OS) pull down menu. I have mine on the second notch, looks like you are on about the fourth one maybe?

I have it one more to the right than the middle. That is not much and does NOT cause any issues with my other apps. They are all fine with this font size. And I still need glasses when using my smartphone. In other words: I won’t change my system settings just to be able to read one app’s news since everything else works fine for me.
I would therefore be happy if the font size in the app could be adjusted in-app without this having a system-wide impact. Or maybe the devs using another, less “megaphony” 
font type could also help with the problem?

Ooof now that makes for some impossible reading 
Yes the font scaling in the News app seems disproportionate to all other font scaling. I opened an issue on our gitlab tracker:
