I use a MURENA ONE. This smartphone runs on /e/OS (de-Googled system)
It can
block trackers
falsify location
hide IP address
I don’t know if these features exist in iode OS and, if not, if it is possible to install Google Maps in a separate profile using Shelter. I think this would allow me to block this Google app as often as possible.
Unfortunately, I have to admit that the alternative apps I have on my Murena (Magic Earth and OSMAnd) don’t work as quickly as GMap.
But my Murena isn’t working very well anymore, and I’m thinking of replacing it.
Look into the iodé app, it will give you details on what is being blocked (it is much more extensive than on /e/ as it isn’t just trackers, but also adblock, etc).
Here is a high-level explanation of using the app: iodé app - iodé
When you speak of Google Maps working quickly do you mean in finding your location? Maybe you don’t have AGPS enabled? Certainly there are more features of Google Maps (live traffic data, etc) but I don’t think it should be quicker at finding location, that happens outside the actual map apps themselves.
when I say that Gogol Maps run quicly I mean the time it need to start.
But I can’t undestand because it is so difficult to stop an App and I find Shelter ( on other similar app) very usefull
I also use Shelter for my banking app, Whatsapp, and Telegram. I keep them frozen because I use Beeper which has bridges to WhatsApp and Telegram (and Signal) as my primary chat app.
Anyway, I don’t see anything slow about starting any navigation app, but maybe you refer to the speed in which it finds your location?
As a followup about spoofing location and IP, I did discuss this with the team, and the consensus is that location spoofing at a system level is of limited usefulness since cell towers triangulate you anyway, and it often causes breakage in apps.
You are of course free to use any VPN of your choosing to mask IP and Location, etc.
If you mean a simulated location, you can set up an app for simulated locations in the developer options of any Android smartphone. However, iodéOS does not come with a pre-installed app, but there are some available, e.g. on F-Droid FakeTraveler | F-Droid - Free and Open Source Android App Repository).
If you mean a VPN, you can set up a VPN in the settings on any Android device. With iodé, the ad and tracking blocker works despite the VPN. You can also install a VPN client app such as Orbot.
