Iode 7.2 installed Pixel 8

Hi

Just updated to 7.2,

Why is there a recommended install for AOSmium.

When there is only untested versions available on GitHub, is it safe and stable to install?

There 10 untested prerelease the last official release is October 25 142.0.7444.48 is this the one to install?

Good question. Also interested in some broader answer.

  1. It is not recommended to use AOSmium. It is now possible to use AOSmium instead of the pre-installed WebView (this was not possible in iodéOS before).
  2. AOSmium is the default browser and default WebView of AXP OS (the successor to DivestOS) and includes many of vanadium’s patches and hardenings (see docs). It is built automatically and is very stable. The latest release verified as stable by the developer is 143.0.7499.109. This can be recognized by the green “stable” badge.
  3. I would download updates from Codeberg rather than GitHub, because GitHub is merely the privacy-unfriendly (GitHub belongs to Microsoft) mirror of the Codeberg repository. However, there is also an F-Droid repository: Stable; Untested

Thanks for explanation

Just checked confusingly it has stable badge but the title is unchanged, which isn’t on github

Downloaded but install failed as not compatible with my phone.

Got it , downloaded the 32 bit version, 64 bit now installed

I’ve since uninstalled, didn’t like it, keeping with Brave

As part of 7.2 we are not “recommending” AOSmium, instead we only allow it as an alternate Webview now (each alternative Webview needs accomodation to allow it to be set as the default Webview app): WebView - iodé (documentation update request to add AXP Webview to this list has been made  )

This sentence doesn’t make any sense: Brave doesn’t have a WebView, and for many years and Android versions now, it has not been possible to set Chromium browsers as WebViews (in early Android versions it was); instead, you have to have a dedicated WebView installed/set up. Are you sure you didn’t accidentally try the browser? It was already compatible with iodéOS before, of course, as it is not an important system component. You can change the default WebView via Settings > System > Developer options > WebView implementation once you have installed it. You can configure the WebView via Settings > System > Developer options > WebView developer tools.

Ahh, it was the browser I installed, is webview integrated in the browser or separate.

Searched Codeberg for webview with no results

Well, I can find “webview64-signed.apk” under “Downloads.”

Sorry not for me, never mind, removed my codeberg account.

Thanks for trying
