Iode 4.13 and android auto

So the release notes for iode 4.13 say Android auto support was added. Are there any instructions for what is needed to get it working?

I’m interesting, for follow

If, then that:

Those instructions worked with iode 4.04. I hope that with Android Auto support officially added to iode 4.13 there is now a simpler way to get it working. What has changed in 4.13 specifically?

Hi,
Thank you for sharing this suggestion.

Please post here if anyone manages to install AA without root privileges.

Hi,
It should be sufficient to:

  • install Android Auto (from e.g. Aurora Store)
  • grant it the “Nearby devices” permission
  • install the companion apps: Google Maps, Google app, Google TTS. The last two ones can be replaced by stubs as explained in the link shared by @AlphaElwedritsch.
  • plug the device to a car, start Android Auto on the car interface if needed, and follow the setup.

There’s no need to install AA as root, as its support in iodé is implemented in a way that gives it a subset of the required privileged permisions. It is to be noted that these permissions are granted only after checking the AA signature, so no other app can benefit from them.
There are a few troubleshooting hints in this page, but they should not be required in general.

Thanks a lot!

Hi,

doesn’t installing Android Auto defeat the purpose of having a degoogled OS? Or doesn’t Google have access to the phone through that app?

Thank you very much
