Hi all,
Recently been using a Moto G7 Plus that I installed /e/OS on, however the installation process was not straight forward at all and pretty difficult.
Considering getting a Moto G52 as it fits my needs and is compatible with the IodeOS installer.
Just wondering if anyone has done this, how it went, etc.? Smooth process? I’m not that proficient at this stuff so when I ran into issues previously I came here for help, but I’d just rather an easier option this time.
Thanks!
Followed the key word “MotorolaG52” here in the forum and found a comment from myself (I have a G32, though), specifying some stuff that I had since then forgotten about
What were your difficulties with the Moto G7?
For the G52: You plan to buy it new and then unlock it and flash iodéOS onto it? That should be quite simple to do. If you already have some other custom ROM installed, then going back to manufacturer’s OS first, then flashing iodéOS might be better.

Ah, yes, your comment jogged my memory - I had totally forgotten that I had to get an unlock code from Motorola, and that was part of the difficulty! It was a pain to do that tbh. I think with hindsight that was the main thing actually - I ran into other difficulties with other OSes (Lineage, /e/), but what exactly what they were I can’t remember - various things, which is why I just want the processs to be as smooth as possible.
Maybe I should just avoid Motorola! The headphone jack is great though…
I’ll be buying used with stock Android and flashing IodeOS, yes.
Yes, the start is difficult with Motorola (obtaining the unlock code) - but after that, the Motorola devices seem to be very uncomplicated!
There are miles of discussion threads about the problems of Fairphone devices, for example, haven’t read many issues about Motorola here on this forum. It’s just the one step and some waiting time until Motorola’s mail arrives. If I could do it (absolute beginner), then you can, too!
PS: The G32 and G52 are not G5 compatible - doesn’t matter to me, but just saying …

Yeah fair point - waiting for a code is a lot better, albeit slow, than bricking my phone lol. Hmm yes it does tick all my boxes otherwise. probably will stick with it.
Hah yeah I’m a noob too, even though I’ve installed a few custom OSes before, I have no coding etc. ability so if I get stuck I’m stuck.
No 5G is a bonus for me and part of the reason I went with this phone!
