How long will the Fairphone3 be supported by IodeOS?

Hi,
before switching all of our family FP3s to Iode, I’d like to know how long we can expect to receive updates/patches for Fairphone3(+).
Since FP3 is a rather old model, would it make sense to install the GSI instead?
Greetings,
nik1

usually at least as long as there are LOS updates. possibly longer. see Xiaomi monet

Install the FP3-specific build for as long as it us supported. Move to the GSI if / when support ever stops

Hey,
sorry, should I open a new thread?

Since Fairphone announced to drop support in August 2026 für FP3 and I didn’t receive an update from Iodé since v6.15 from 26th April, which is longer than usual, I’m wondering, if LOS/iodé will update about 1 or 2 years longer as Fairphone support, what I hoped.
Does today anybody have an idea about the aprox. secure lifespan of FP3? That means with security updates from iodé?
Best
Peace

There was a build for FP3 on 6th May, and another one has just been made. Both are available here

LineageOS and LineageOS for microG are still making regular Android 15 builds for FP3. LineageOS are likely to stop making builds when their Android 17 builds become available (which is probably at least 6 months away), although they usually continue to backport Google’s monthly security fixes. LineageOS for microG will continue to make builds for as long as those monthly security fixes are being backported.

So there is no reason to think that iodé will stop making FP3 builds any time soon. I believe they are still making builds for devices that are stuck on earlier Android versions.

Thanks a lot for the update. This morning I checked for an OTA, there wasn’t one. Now I checked again, now there is on.
All builds are about 1 month delayed, the build from 6th May has LOS date from 26th April which is based on the monthly patch from Google released usualy each beginning of the month, isn’t it?
Thanks again.
Peace

That’s normal. Google release the changes to AOSP. LineageOS merge those changes into their sources, and test them before u[dating their public sources. iodé (and other custom ROMs based on LineageOS, such a /e/OS) then have to merge those changes into their sources and test them before releasing builds containing the changes. All of that takes time and resources, especially for a small organisation like iodé.

Really there is no need to worry about security fixes being a month or two out of date. Most users of Android are running builds which are years out of date. And very few (if any) of the security ‘issues’ fixed in these updates are readily exploitable ‘in real life’.

Good clarifying, thanks! I just worried a little, since the iodé-OTA came this month later than in most other months. Coincidental with the announcement of Fairphone.

Yes, effectively we skipped the May release, so 7.6 (and 6.16 etc) include 2 months of updates.
