How future-proof is the IodéOS Galaxy Note 10(+)?

Hi everyone,

After being forced by my company to run a regular Android phone for two years (glad to be quitting that one!), I was happy to come back and visit the Iodé website. I was thrilled to see that the Samsung Galaxy Note 10 and 10+ phones are available in the shop.

However, when visiting this page, I saw that these phones aren’t currently running the newest version of IodéOS. Also, being quite a noob when it comes to custom ROMs, I must admit I was a bit alarmed by the number of red cells in their rows.

Which leads my to these questions:

  • Although they are not running the latest IodéOS version, are these phones still receiving security patches (I have a IodéOS Galaxy Note 9 phone that I can’t update anymore)
  • Are they expected to be running the future versions of IodéOS? I am quite aware that updating IodéOS for all devices must be a huge taks, and that if it is planned it could understandably take time.
  • Without asking for promises, is it realistic to hope that these phones will be supported by the IodéOS team for several more years (assuming LOS continues to support them).

I realize these questions have probably been addressed somewhere in the forum already. I explored it as best I could, but I am afraid I am too much of a noob for some of the conversations I came across.

Thank you very much for enlightening me :slightly_smiling_face:

Don’t buy one of those old devices.
I recommend a Pixel 7a and up.

Or a recent Sony device, especially if you need an external SD card for e.g. music storage

0%, due to the Samsung VoLTE issue in custom ROMs, unless you plan to only use VOIP/SIP, XMPP comms, or some other alternate communications application instead of the carrier’s standard voice calls. Or don’t need voice calls at all.

Voice Calls work though, but quality could be better from time to time. Overall it depends on when your provider will shut down 2G/3G network.

Would only use it if already owned. If to buy a new one, stick with @AlphaElwedritsch or @petefoth recommendations

Thanks everyone for the great insight  Just to be sure, I am assuming that IodéOS 6 being available for the Samsung 10 series makes no difference?

Also, all the points you mentioned were directly related to the Note 10 device (if I am not mistaken). Just to get a broader understanding, are there general guidelines when picking a phone with a custom ROM? Or is it all about having a deep knowledge about the device characteristics? (such as the VoLTE issue).

Thanks again
