Hello,
I am a newbie.
My Samsung Galaxy A52s was delivered a week ago with iodé 5.8 installed.
I am making my first steps.
Is it possible to transfer files (photos…) from my phone to a computer ?
I’ve connected the phone with a compatible and verified USB-cable to two different computers running Kubuntu 20.04 and Kubuntu 24.04.1.
The phone is detected but I cannot access the files on the phone.
The parameters are set on “transfer files” (or equivalent… I’m using french iodé).
Thanks for the advice !
Bonjour,
I use SimpleSSHD from F-Droid, which enables me to just use a bookmark in my computer’s file manager to display folders from the phone (login credentials required) over wifi (at home).
Normally, the following should work: Search for the phrase “Use USB for” in your phone settings, and select “File Transfer.”
I’m not sure why it’s not working for you, though.
Slang (argot) meaning “a computer running Linux.”
(Because a computer looks like a box.)
Thanks Taurus-II,
I’ve learnt what a “Linux box” means, great !
I have noticed that I have encountered several issues:
1-Kubuntu 20.04 does not support MTP (an apparently well known bug) and I’ve found a turnaround to be able to make it work on this page: https://doc.ubuntu-fr.org/mtp
sudo killall kiod5
and then
mtp-detect
was all I needed to connect my computer and phone…
2-For the other Linux box on Kubuntu 24.04.1, I have rebooted everything and it worked like a charm.
Something I noticed (and I think it is weird): every time I connect my phone to a computer, I must reset the parameters to “file transfer”…
I would have liked it to be always set as a default setting but it seems like I will have to do this thing over and over…
At the end of the day, I can copy my files from my phone to my PC so I consider this topic solved.
I take this topic again as I do not understand? I did always transfer with cable without problem. Since some times (I am now on Moto G42 with iodé 7.2) this does not work. In the developper’s options I did activate ‘transfer’ but the device is not recognized by my computer (linux) and just load the battery.
mtp-detect
gives “No raw devices found”
I thought it was a kind of protection by iodéOS but it does not seem so??
Meanwhile, i extract the sd card and copy… or other stupid solutions.
By default it will go to “charging only” mode when connecting, you need to pull down the notification on the phone and change it to “File Transfer” which will require entering your unlock pattern / pin / fingerprint (thus it is a “security feature not a bug”).
What happens if you plug it in (it is now charging) and got to settings → search for “USB” → connected devices/USB → this should bring you to the same place as above mentioned “pull down the notification”. Do not alter the controlling device. Go to second “chapter” data transfer/USB-Tethering/MIDI/PTP and try to set to data transfer.
Controlling device is “this device” (second option, I get it in French).
All the remaining options in the second “chapter” are greyed and set to “data transfer” already (I cannot change it). It would apparently be OK but the phone does not appear in my possible disks to explore after that.
Manjaro (tested with Debian now) but this is independent and Linux does not ask for drivers there. I have the impression that the limitation is related to the phone
Interesting, thanks. I did try croc for the same reason and it is working fine also to “replace” my cable!
Localsend is lighter on Android and explicitely declare that it works locally but is apparently sharing on wifi only??? That’s another question!
