How do you grant "write" access to Android>data (or Androi>obb)?

Hello,
How do you allow your phone or your computer to push files in the Android>data directory (or folder) ?

I’ve got a Samsung Galaxy A52s running iodéOS 5.8 (Android 14) and a computer running on dual boot Kubuntu 20.04 or Windows 8.
I can also have access to a Kubuntu 24.04.1, if needed.

For instance, I have some OSMAnd~ maps that I would like to copy from a computer (I have them from a backup of another phone) and paste into the folder that contains the maps I already use, thus avoiding some extra data transfer.

I know where I wan’t my files to go: Android>data>net.osmand.plus>files
But I don’t know how I can transfer my *.obf files there…

I have tried with a USB cable, connecting my phone to my computer.

Before, I allowed USB transfer with Settings>Connected devices>USB:
USB controlled by

:green_square: Connected device
:white_check_mark: This device

Use UBB for
:white_check_mark: File Transfer
:green_square: USB tethering
:green_square: MIDI
:green_square: PTP
:green_square: No data transfer

And, also, I have access to the “Developer options” (I tapped 7 times on the “build num ber” in Settings>About phone) and I have set USB debugging to “yes” (Debug mode when USB is connected).

Not sure if it could be useful or not…

I have tried to copy the files in the target folder: failed…:no_entry_sign:
I have tried to copy the files in another folder on the phone and, then, copy from this folder to the target folder (using the phone’s files manager): failed… :no_entry_sign:

Do you have any advice ?

I am OK to use command lines on my linux computer if this is part of the solution.
I want to use free and open source apps as much as possible…

Thanks for your answers !

Hi,
I use Total Commander with Shizuku support, see
https://www.ghisler.ch/board/viewtopic.php?p=455181&sid=fef536d70164e581fb354f830681dfa5#p455181

Works fine

Hello laneb,
thanks for your quick answer !
Unfortunately, I am stuck in the process…
I don’t know if this is impossible with iodéOS 5.8 or if I am missing something…
I’ve got following error message while trying to enter target folder:

I’ve activated USB debugging mode
Shizuku is running

When I go to Settings>Apps>All apps and click on Total Commander, under “App info”, I see Permissions: No permissions granted.
But does it matter ? I don’t know…

I’m lost :worried:

Does access to android data of the internal memory work?
My device is rooted, in the Shizuku settings it says you need wireless debugging also

I have access to the Android>data folder with Terminal Commander.

When I wrote my message about the “Write rights” error, I had Total Commander installed from the Release version repository.

I then tried to install it from the Beta version repository.

It seems to work better.

I succeeded in copying OSMAnd~ maps to the target folder I aimed to.
But, awkwardly, I can’t copy OrganicMaps files to the folder I already have files in. I had to copy the complete folder from my “old” phone backup.
I have now two folders of map files for the same app…

But I don’t think it will be a problem…

Thanks for your help !

Late now but OSMAnd has an import/export function, that can optionally include downloaded content such as maps. Saves having to mess about in those folders manually

Thanks but my question was: how do you write the data from an old phone to a new one ?
Regarding OSMAnd, I saved the maps with the export function you mentionned but… then ?
I had my maps (and other stuff) saved on my old phone, I could transfer them to a PC, but from the PC I wasn’t able to “paste” them on my new phone.
